POST OFFICE- Not so special delivery..

A couple of months ago I made an online order to be delivered by special delivery. I waited and waited and it didnt appear. I check the tracking code online, which said it had been delivered. Well I didnt have it! I rang the post office and the really unhelpful guy stated gruffly that i "must have the wrong tracking code, because THAT parcel has definitely been delivered".

A week later, a neighbour stopped me in the street (I dont really know any of my neighbours) and said she had the parcel. I rang the post office to explain what had happened and the gruff bloke that i spoke to was deeply apologetic saying that they NEVER hand over special delivery to anybody other than theyre addressed to and he assured me that it wouldnt happen again. No worries, no harm done I thought.

Yesterday I received a note through my letterbox of another neighbour. She'd been given a special delivery letter for me    I rang the post office again to complain that it certainly shouldnt have happened again. Again, he gave an apology. But that's just not enough- it WILL happen AGAIN!

The icing on the cake was when I have just gone round to collect the letter. The letter had PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL blazoned across it. It turned out to be an UNSIGNED replacement bank card for a high-value bank account    The post-man had just given this to a random person that happens to live in my street!!!!!!! I cannot describe how mad I am- he has just given someone I hardly know access to nearly all my money!!!!!!! The bank sent the card special delivery to avoid potential fruad risks only for some ibecile postman to hand the letter over to any Tom, !!!!!! or Harry. I am shaking with rage and have a sick feelin in my stomach thinking about what could have happened. I can't even ring the post office until Monday now.

I don't know what can be a successful outcome though. An apology off the Manager? not good enough, I had one of these last time but it didnt help. The way I'm feeling right now, I want the postman to be disciplined. He clearly breached the post-office's policy for delivering special delivery mail (the manager admitted this). Not once but TWICE on the same address! Furthermore, he KNOWS what he is doing is wrong because he NEVER leaves a card to say that its been left with a neighbour because he doesn't want to leave proof that he's been breaking the rules!!!!

If you have got something REALLY important to send- be careful of sending with royal mail...they might just give it to anyone.....

I think this is an issue that needs to be addressed with regards to the individual postman. He either does not know what he is doing, in which case he needs more training, or he is blatantly breaking the rules, in which case (IMO) he should be disciplined.

I would contact RM customer services, not the local office. If the try to fob you off, ask to speak to a manager x
    Gone ... or have I?

Am hoping you're checking for replies ... RM's Customer Service phoneline on 08457 740 740 is open until 2:30pm on a Saturday. Whenever we've phoned them (trouble with the manager of our local sorting / post office), they've always been very interested in such problems.

right then, your right that this should never happen.

i would never take any risks with special deliveries on duty.the postman actually signs for them and has the duty of care of them from that point.

    what to do.
call customer services and log a complaint(keep a note of times, who you speak to and also tracking numbers)

call the local office and ask to speak to the/a office manger
take a note of who you speak to,and dont assume who answers the phone is a manager.

if you dont get a satisfactory response from CS/local depot then you also have postwatch who can take up a case forconstant issues.
however i would leave them out of it unless this cant be resolved.

unfortunatly this is a perfect example of how the cuts and lack of training has knock on effects.

Totally understand understand where you are coming from.

In a previous job years ago I used to deal with complaints on mobile phones and I saw quite a few cases where anyone had signed just to get the parcel into the street which had resulted in some thefts.

We have had some brilliant postmen and we have had some right idiots.

The idiot ones used to continually leave our mail hanging in the postbox. So, my credit cards & statements were available to avy identity fraudster.

As a previous poster said, it's the lazy individual. Most are very good and understand how they could contribute to ID theft by doing this.

Everytime I complained "sorry, it won't happen again" but it did. I noticed tht the postman changed very quickly after each time so is he now doing it to someone else???
