British Gas now requiring smart meters with new tariffs

ItAre you sure that bg are the cheapest.
Does the CEC confirm this?
You say you 'hate' them, strange to want to stick with a company you feel like this about
Just went through the CEC, and it came up with 1 which was...
EBICo
Ebico Prime Fixed 18
Saving on what you would’ve paid £171/yr
No cashback
Estimated new costs £1,945/yr
£162/month
Which is confusing, as my current energy usage over the last 12 months is £1617.82, a lot less than the estimated new cost of £1,945.
Looking at the tariff info, the electricity is 15.270p per kWh, but the BG one with the smart meter is 13.9p per kWh.
So no, doesn't appear there are any cheaper to switch to than BG, so even though I "hate them", what's the point of switching to anything more expensive??0 -
Did you input your usage rather than your spend?
Do you just have electricity?0 -

Try getting a quote direct from Ebico, that tarrif is an 18 month fix it is possible the CEC is displaying the 18 month costs over 12 months.0

Just did that, it gives me a quote for Prime 18 Fixed, at £106 per month for electricity and £60 for Gas. Other tariffs they have, Evergreen at £110 per month elec, or Evergreen 12 fixed at £109.
Just scrolled back through all my BG bills, and never ever paid over £100 a month for electricity, so it's definitely more expensive.
Same kind of tariff, 15.2699p per unit compared to 13.9p.
Also tried another comparison website, and again nothing cheaper. Maybe it's where I live0 -
sounds like the OP is on standard tariff ATM.
So even if BG were to carry out their threat, you would of had 3 months of cheaper gas during winter anyway!0 -

I'm on HomeEnergyFix Mar 2019, and check regularly to see if there's cheaper tariffs, there hasn't been until this week when those two new ones have come along that are a bit cheaper but require the smart meter.0 -
I am with British gas for my dual fuel prepayment meters already in house when I moved in I asked British gas to change to standing order payment they said I could but the only tariff they could change me to would be a dearer tariff so I did a comparison check on energy club it said bulb could save me £727 per year with bulb but then when I went to bulbs website to change they said because I have already got a smart meter they say I cant change to them anybody else had this problem0

try somewhere else then. (assuming you don't have an exit fee)0

Well this thread has digressed a bit, the point of my original post was a heads up that the new cheap BG tariffs in the T&C small print require you to get a smart meter fitted within 3 months. I almost got caught out by it so I'm sure others will be.
Whether I do actually switch to it... undecided for now.0
