Huge jump in monthly bill

  • OP, when I had Br.Gas smart meters I never submitted a single reading online for either gas or leccy.

I let the smart meters do that for me!....no point having a dog and barking yourself.

When you log in to your Br.Gas account there is an option that lets you choose how often you want your meters to transmit the meter readings to Br.Gas. I’m assuming that option still exists???

I had both my smart meters setup to transmit readings every 24hrs;...and those readings were viewable virtually real-time on the website.

I had no reason to look at my meters apart from a very occasional check to see that the readings on the meters themselves and the readings online actually tallied;....which they always did.

However, although Br.Gas had daily readings from both my gas and leccy meters they still managed to completely screw up my D/D and consistently overcharged me for the entire time I was with them to the extent that they owed me MANY! hundreds of pounds when I left them late last year.

I very foolishly:doh: trusted Br.Gas to bill me accurately because they told me that’s what having Smart meters would do,...they didn’t.(I’ve learned my lesson since though!)

Br.Gas gave me smart meters, but their billing system was anything but smart;...perhaps they’ve improved, but perhaps not.

Whilst you’re about it, have you looked at changing to a cheaper energy supplier?...Br.Gas tariffs are all quite pricey. Even if you need to pay exit fees you may find it financially prudent to change supplier. It’s a simple process that could save you £££’s ...however, your meters would lose their ‘smart’ functionality.

    I used to love my smart meters,...I didn’t love Br.Gas ..
  • Until the industry sorts out the carp that the smart Dumb meter is, I would submit monthly.
My provider dropped the DD to £3 and I am still waiting for them to sort it!
  • My electricity gets paid by DD every month at £42.71. Today, £101.31 was taken for electricity and that’s how much will come out based on “projections”. I’m £58.15 in credit now!

Their previous projections had me estimated to pay £444.39 electricity but I only used £396.72.

This is with British Gas and I have a smart meter. How the hell can they justify such a hike??

Your DD has been far too low, I would imagine you currently have a slight debit balance whereas you should be in a credit balance at this time of year.
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
