Payday Loan 6 years ago...

Hi all,

I've recently started saving for a house deposit and hopefully in 18-24 months I will have enough for the sort of mortgage I'm after.

I've recently been scanning through old e-mails and I've realised that 6 years ago I applied and was declined a payday loan with wonga. All I remember of it is that it wasn't for me, but my girlfriend at the time. I never really thought about the consequences and completely forgot about it up until now.

I have the free experian account and my credit score is good. I've never applied for another payday loan and I've had different types of finance and contracts in my name since, and I currently have a credit card, too.

I've read about avoiding payday loans like the plague, and I genuinely thought I was okay until my heart sank when seeing an email from wonga from back in 2012. Should I be worried?

Thank you.

It never appeared on your credit account.
Before you start looking at properties why not check your credit file with the 3 main credit reference agencies !
Keep saving and get a LISA

    Thank you for your reply,

From what I can tell, it has never appeared. With the experian free service, it has very limited information- I can see my credit score and that is about it, should I consider upgrading it to see if it says anything about it?
  • The MSE credit club will show you your Experian report for free.

Ignore the score as that's the made up bit, but check the rest.

Use Noddle and Clearscore for the other two reports.

That's a handy tool, I can't see anything on there that says anything about it? I don't suppose you know where I could find it if it is there?

On another note, It's got my ex girlfriends details on my record, too. Her name, and DoB, anyway. We did have a joint bank account.. Am I right in thinking that I'm no longer tied to her now as we closed that account when we split back in 2016?

I'll check the other two reports tomorrow. thanks again
  • You need to file a notice of disassociation from your ex (with each CRA), if you no longer have any joint financial products, as you will still be impacting each other's files.

this is a nightmare, and i'm beginning to lose all hope already. I think I may have found something to wonga on my linked address - WDFC from 6 years ago.

Is it game over for me? :(

After reading more on the internet, and this forum, am I right in thinking that after 6 years the record for this will 'drop off'? Checking the dates of when I applied for the PDL it will be 6 years in December of this year.

I've also read about some lenders not taking much notice if it wasn't in the past 12 months and others outright denying. I can't find anything on Noddle regarding the PDL or WDFC and on Experian it's only under 'Linked addresses' Nothing under settled loans etc.

-I have requested to remove my ex partner from my financial connections from Noddle and will do the same later today with Experian and Clearscore. Are there any others I need to make aware, too?

Thank you again for your help and advice. It really is appreciated. I'm incredibly worried and clearly don't have much of a clue about all this! I guess one positive is that i'm learning all this now rather than crunch time when i'm ready to apply.

    No. You shouldn't.

Man up Percy, for Gods sake!!

If you're beginning to lose all hope already, 2 years before you even get started, what will you be like when you start applying for mortgages and putting in offers? Get some therapy!!:o
Feb 2008, 20year lifetime tracker with "Sproggit and Sylvester"... 0.14% + base for 2 years, then 0.99% + base for life of mortgage...base was 5.5% in 2008...but not for long. Credit to my mortgage broker
  • This is becoming an absolute nightmare. I've signed up for all the 3 CRAs and now it seems none of my electoral roll history match up? At a previous block of flats I lived in, on Clearscore it says I lived at Flat C, when I lived at Flat A and always received my voting cards registered to Flat A, and it seems to think I moved out, then moved back in? On the Experian it only says the block number, not the flat. And on Noddle it only has my current address! This is so confusing and I'm losing all hope already. I just don't know what to do. I've had a brief look on my local councils website but can't see anything about this. Surely all the CRAs information on this should automatically match up with this?
