claim notice pay after liquidation

Hello all, I was made redundant today due to insolvency. The charted accountant who is handling the situation for my employers came in and explained to us what would happen and what we could claim.

He said we shouldn't have any problems getting our redundancy and holiday pay, but in order to try and get our notice pay we have to be claiming all of the benefits that we are now entitled to. I've just been looking into Universal Credit which is running in our area, and all of the information I have read states that if you have over £16,000 in savings you are not eligible for Universal Credit.

Is this correct, and if so does that mean I will be able to put in a claim to get my notice pay from the government?

Thanks
