  • But why have to be stricter to “make do” with Aldi.

For me, Aldi do not do Crusty rolls. I don’t like soft rolls so that’s one item I’d have to go elsewhere for every week.

Therefore, I’ll just go else where in the first place.

For me, it's probably closer to 90%.

I've found Aldi size 5 pull-ups to be fine (again, a just in case at night / during a daytime nap). And just to show a bit of solidarity with our little madam, I find the ladies products in both stores to be fine too! In fact I'm probably not v subtle when I go in there and stick a box on the conveyor belt along with a bar of chocolate and a pack of biscuits :o

I prefer lidl to aldi ladies products. But been to two lidl's in the last week and no own brand sanitary towels and no space for them either

The majority. The fact that aldi cleaning products are now buav approved along with their toiletries is something that gets me shopping far more in aldi than in lidl. Although I do shop in lidl from time to time.
  • For me, almost none (so I don't bother going anymore). Our Lidl is terrible for fresh fruit and veg, and the meat/fish is generally poor quality. Other things are hit and miss, but I find they aren't generally cheaper than promotions in other stores, so just wait for those and stock up. We don't have an Aldi anywhere near but on the occasions I've visited one, it seemed much better.

I'm not bothered about having lots of choice, in fact I think that it just slows the whole shopping trip down so I am happy to get most items from Lidl. I do have a regular list of items that I stock up on when in Morrisons about once a month that I can't get at Lidl's:
UHT milk (I make my own yogurt), dried milk, Crispbakes, and cottage cheese are the main ones. Some items are down to personal taste, I don't like their beetroot, pickled onions and cottage cheese and have found that their frozen fish, breaded chicken etc seem to have got smaller to maintain the price so I've gone back to branded items.
I also pick up items at B&M, Home Bargains and Wilkinson's but I would say that I buy the majority of my shopping in Lidl's. I find the main problem is keeping OH out of the 'toys' section in the middle! (Things that you never knew you needed!)
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

People very often give this as a reason for shopping at Aldi/Lidl, and I really don't understand it! It's not that you have to look at every single product in a big supermarket (I'm sure most of us buy the same brands and items most of the time), but if you want a specific product they are likely to have it. If you don't happen to like the one option in Aldi or Lidl you have to do without.

It's something over an over-simplification to say that the choice in Lidl and Aldi is limited. It varies (a lot) by product type.

I'd say that with Deli meat, for example, Lidl and Aldi have the same kind of range that a large supermarket has. Whereas they "only" have 3 or 4 types of Peanut Butter, where a large supermarket might have 20.

Similarly with cheese (large range), but spreads (maybe 10 types instead of 30-40).

I'd struggle to think of one product type where there is only a single "take it or leave it" option, unless you get to a vary narrow range (e.g. there is only one type of Camembert).

Buying the same brands ever week has just answered your question

When in a supermarket with 20 choices of each item For bestvalue for money you need to know the weight, price per kilo, salt and sugar content of the item When you don’t have choice it’s buy or not

I’m not saying Lidl and aldi are superstars , why I say is they have one choice , take it or leave in and sometimes I will leave it when comparing like for like elsewhere
