Buying from USA?

This may or may not be the correct section for this question. With the current exchange rate being so strong, I wondered if buying cd's and dvd's or even elec goodies from the states would be a good idea. Also does anyone know of a good online store to use?

I think you'll find that by the time any US site puts on their p+p, many CD's and DVD's won't be any cheaper. There will be some exceptions though.
Electrical stuff will be cheaper, but again there'll be higher p+p charges, never mind the fact that they work of a different voltage and they use NTSC rather than PAL. You also have to consider that anything above £18 is liable for import tax, if it gets stopped.Dave. :wave:0 -
Not a link to store, but a reminder that you shouldn't forget to include your import duty and possibly VAT on top of the price0

I only take advantage of the strong pound through digital downloads, any type of physical shipment as Phantom Flan Flinger says loses any financial advantage with all the extras you have to pay."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

If you look at amazon.co.uk, then check out their partnerssellers, caiman_usa are always cheap and have delivered to me loads of times.
Don't be too worried about tax, any item less than £18 comes in tax free. Quite a few suppliers will also gift wrap, because it's a 'birthday' gift from your relatives...:)0 -

Birthday gifts are still liable to the same customs duty and VAT as normal purchases, plus it is the person importing the item (you the buyer) that is liable for it being mislabelled as a gift or undervalued and could find you self with a large fine or imprisonment. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
