Confused about Boiler in New House

I have just moved into a new rented house that has a boiler with a Sunvic Select XL programmer. The agent told me to just flick a switch to get hot water and that there was no hot water tank in the house. However, as the timer has been switched off for some time as the house was empty, when I switch it on “2PU” flashes. The only way I can get hot water is by switching it off and then on again. However, there is a water tank in one of the bedrooms which gets quite warm – is this an immersion heater? I don’t really want to leave this on all the time or for long periods as my electricity bill will be sky high. Or does my hot water come from the boiler? Thanks for any clarification.

  • Have you asked the landlord how the boiler works?
Have your googled to find the user manual for the boiler and /or the programmer?
If the agent said there was no tank and you have found one, then ask them whether you have a combi boiler (ie instant hot water as boiler fires when you run a tap or the heating is on) or a tank fed system where the boiler heats water that is then stored in the tank until required.
The tank may also have an immersion heater inside it, there will be an electrical switch somewhere to operate that. It may or may not have a red light that comes on and Water Heater on it.

I would ask questions and google to see what I can find out first! Best of luck in your new home.
