Seems like half the world is getting an income from recommending customers to Octopus at £100 a time. Who the h..l do they think will end up paying for this? Offgem should have left Iresa alone if they are interested in lower energy prices, and stop these schemes, or better, regulate the whole market. Switching costs everybody in the end. Money and time.

I think you may be exaggerating just a tad, I've never heard of Octopus and I have no idea what Iresa is, but I switch energy suppliers whenever I need to and the beneficiary is me.
  • For your information Iresa and Octopus are two smaller energy suppliers. Iresa with many satisfied customers, were stopped trading by Offgem. Too cheap? Their customers have been transferred to Octopus who operate a scheme whereby Octopus account holders can get consumers to 'switch' to Octopus and both get a £50 credit. So there's a £100 per switch added to the supplier's cost which will inevitably be passed on to customers in higher tariffs. Why don't Octopus just lower their tariff.
So that whereas you personally may have benefitted from 'switching' you have done so at the expense of higher general tariffs to pay for the cost of the 'switching ' industry. 'Ditch the switch' and regulate the tariff!! Nothing new here regulated prices were the norm for decades.

Am I misreading you or are you suggesting that Iresa had action against them by Ofgem because they were 'too cheap'? This is not the case.

They were too cheap .......... in the customer service department :p
  • Octopus is doing no different to what BULB enery is doing.

IRESA was the worst company I have ever been with. I switch every year and have been with pretty much most of them. They were crap on every level.

Them being closed down was correct.

Good ridance to Iresa. Switching does NOT cost us in the end. Switching saves us money and keeps the market competitive.

haha...rofl....lol....lmao...and every other acronym you can think of for "Iresa fan". Is that you Adeniyi?

Iresa are the worst company I have ever dealt with in any business relationship, never mind just utility companies. Not just me either, judging by the number of complaints they have received. Even Martin was advising people steer clear, but that was only from about a year ago - I switched over 18 months ago from a recommendation from MSE Energy club.

I switched away as soon as I could in April. (They still have my credit despite months of communications)

Being such a fan I'm sure you read this, especially page 2 regarding how many satisfied customers they had:
