FTB Mortgage application- electoral roll not up to date yet following marriage

My husband and I are looking to buy our first house together and so have been checking our credit files are in order. We only got married two weeks ago and so I've just requested to change my name on the electoral role as Equifax was saying I wasn't on there (I am but in my old name). My local office has said the change won't be published until the first working day of December due to them being in canvassing at the moment.

Does anyone know if there is even any point in us starting the process until this is published? I'm worried that we'll be denied a DIP if the electoral roll has my details incorrect. Can anyone help please?

  • If you have not even started looking yet (my inference of the information provided) it will be no problem at all.

This situation I'd imagine happens all the time and it also doesn't sound like there was also a change of address to cause any extra work

Would have thought that so long as you can show it is you (ie with marriage cert ) then it shouldn't matter at all.
  • Normally you just show your birth certificate & marriage certificate.

I'd also pay for a couple of extra copies of your marriage certificate as you have to send off originals to a few places and this will save you from having to wait for one to be returned before you start the next thing on the list.

    Hope this helps :)
  • Thanks everyone! That puts my mind at rest a bit.

We have been having a look at house for the last couple of months. Have not been to view anything yet partly because the ones we asked to view were sold when we rang up! We know we really need a DIP before we can offer though so we need to find a broker now and get that sorted first!

Impatient Coconut- I have got three copies actually! One spare is with the DVLA and the other is with my bank at the moment. It was definitely well worth getting the extra copies!
