TUI Free Child Places with grandparents

Hi, I had a look but didn't see anything that fully related to our situation. We're looking at a holiday for 2019 that has free child places. My wife & I have 2 children and we are going to go with my parents. The free child places are 1 per 2 adults per room, and the hotel we are looking at has rooms to pick that sleep 1-4, so I am wondering if we can get away with booking one child with us and one with my parents (getting 2 free child places) but have both kids sleep in our room that sleeps 1-4?

I am most likely going to the shop to speak to an agent about it, but wondered if anyone has tried or done this before?

I think your plan will work. You might just need to sort out the 4th bed in your room with the hotel once you get there.
  • Just to update for anyone who comes across this in future. Went into our local TUI store and they advised that it is generally OK to do this, particularly if the rooms do sleep 1-4. It sounds like it's not an uncommon practice and the agent said they'd only known of one hotel causing a fuss about it and that was probably where the room technically slept 3. They were going to add notes to the booking for the hotel asking for 2 beds for the kids set up in one of the rooms possibly along the lines of so if one set of adults wants to stay out later the kids can be put to bed by the other couple in one room etc.
  • I'm looking at doing exactly this so thanks for updating PoshPhil.

My youngest will be 2 1/2 when we go in August which is annoying that those 6 months change it from "free" for her (under 2) to £1500...!!!! That's a heck of a difference!!

When are you going in 2019 Phil? Would be great if you could come back after the holiday and update.

We're going in mid-August so will be a little while before I can update!

I felt more comfortable booking through the in store travel agent who effectively agreed it was OK to do than booking online - they matched the online price anyway so it seems worth it for peace of mind.
