Care Home costs and property remains unsold

I find it very sad This lady has got no children just an elderly STEP/ SIL and DIL. They don't visit very often and other than myself she does not have any other visitors I don't know if they have told her what the current situation is regarding her finances. She married in her 30's to a man who was 26 years older than herself.
I have passed all the information provided here to the DIL and put the ball back in her court. I was unhappy about the fact she is telling me she had fainted and is having dizzy spells. I spoke to the Manager in the Care Home and she was going to get the Dr to check her over. She has got a DNR in place for some 5 years now. BUT as you say people can carry on for a good few years when they are being cared for.
This is giving me some thoughts to my own situation when I could find myself in a similar situation. Thanks again Sue0 -
My MIL is frail at 91 but since she has been in her home (about 1 year) she has only had 1 water infection becuase she is kept clean which she wasn’t managing herself very well. She has not even had a sniffle.
They test her urine at any point they suspect she might have an infection so they are onto any issues straight away.
My MIL has arthritis and dimensia but both are chronic conditions so she could go on for a long time.
I would suggest you consider lasting power of attorneys both for welfare and also for finance.
If you are putting on people your age then consider younger replacement attorneys as you may outlive your partner/siblings.
It much better to put this in place ahead of the event.0 -
For all the reasons explained, don't rent. Sell.
These properties can be harder to sell because of the related restrictions and costs, so pricing right is hard.
But basically any property will sell when the price is lowered to what someone is prepared to pay. 14 months on the market suggests strongly the price is above what any buyer is prepared to pay!
In that time, how many viewings have there been?
What feedback from those viewing?
How good is the marketing? Where/how is the EA advertising?
Has the seller changed EA at all during that time?
Have other EAs been asked for their opinion as to price if the contract was switched to them?
Excellent advice!0 -
The flat is actually being sold by the Step Daughter It went on at £200,000 and the price was reduced to £190,000 about 2-3 months
It has been with the same Estate Agents since beginning
There have been viewers and the feedback from couples was that they thought it was too small for a couple. I think the only marketing is online
I don't think the price is too high Another flat sold recently for
£230,000 but it has a recently fitted kitchen
I don't talk about finance with my friend as I don't want to worry her
The Step Daughter has got power of attorney and I assume she is dealing with the bills etc
Thankfully it is really not my problem I have passed all the information made on this forum. I found it enlightening as who knows when I might be in a similar situation
Thanks again for all the advice. You are the best Sue0
