Financial Association removal

Hi I have a good credit rating and my partner has a poor one, ccjs etc

We are financially linked through 1 basic bank account which is all clear and has no overdraft.

It hasn't stopped me obtaining credit in the past, credit cards, car leasing etc.

However we did decide to get her name taken off of the joint account and have It in my name only.

I was told this should only take a few days to do as we did it in branch on a Saturday.

This would mean that I have no financial connection to her at all.

Do I now have to contact the 3 credit report agencies and inform them that we are no longer associated? How long does this take to get removed from my credit report? Also I take it that once she is removed from my report, I would also be removed from here??

Thanks

  • It should remove automatically.

If not contact the CRA's in a month or 2 to ask
  • It can take 6-8 weeks for your credit files to be updated by the CRAs - most banks only report things to the CRAs monthly, so depending on where you are in their monthly cycle it can take a while. It will happen automatically if you can wait; if you cant then you could post a notice of correction, but this is unlikely to do much. Once the connection is removed, you will not appear on their report and they will not appear on yours any more.

    Hi barrymat

Now you have had your partner's name removed from the joint bank account you will need to file a notice of disassociation with each of the three credit reference agencies. You will find a form online for each one of them that you are required to complete. It's important to do this as it will not happen automatically.
