This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
I’m off out to spend the day with my brother and his family. He was talking about going out for lunch. It will be nice if that is still the plan, and will save my sister in law having to cook for us all. She doesn’t like cooking, so I’m sure that she will be pushing to go out.
He has said that if there is anything that I would like to do today or anywhere I would like to go I can choose, but I can’t think of anywhere in particular. I will just enjoy spending the day with them all as both my niece and nephew will be there.
I managed to get quite a few things batch cooked for the freezer yesterday. I did four portions of beef bourguignon, chicken in red wine, moussaka and cottage pie. I quite enjoyed having a day cooking and it’s nice to have a few hm ready meals in the freezer.
Camelot I hope that the move went well.
I hope that you all have a decent day.0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.
Slept for about 4 hours, not too bad for me.
I very cleverly managed to spill floor cleaning water on the rug in the sitting room, at least it was clean water. I've m
Soaked up most of it and hoping that the rest will dry once the sun comes up to warm the room.
I spent a lot of yesterday knitting and making up miniature dolls, each one is about 5" tall, then the clothes need to be knitted. I'll do some of that today but also need to sort out travel for next weekend, I'm off to see a friend in Essex.
I have had a senior travel card for years but it has run out and I haven't renewed it, need to see if it is worth it as really most of my travel was for work. My travel card saved the local authority quite a bit of money but at my expense.
Other than that, no interesting news from me.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Hi Holly and AOD, I've given up on sleep for the time being. We went over to Chris and Crystal's, Steve and he played golf and I hung out with Crystal but she had turned the aga down and it took ages to come up to temp again so we ate really late. As a result I've had terrible indigestion and heartburn which has kept me awake.
Well, we had news yesterday - a copy of a letter from the consultant to the GP telling them that Steve has Follicular lymphoma (not leukaemia as they originally thought). It was a bit of a shock out of the blue and I can't help but think some people would have been terribly upset to find out like that. At least we were able to google and find out information, some might have been left wondering about the implications until they could talk to a doctor.
Anyway, it seems that it is a very slow growing cancer that is very treatable if it needs to be treated, which isn't always the case. We should find out on Tuesday what the treatment plan is and at least we'll be armed with pertinent questions because we know what we're facing.0 -
Morning all.
Today I'll be 'visiting' my local recycling centre (aka the tip) with three bags. I use A mason a lot so the cardboard builds up.
Snoozer - a silver lining! Now you both have a definite diagnosis it'll make life a little less scary, I hope.
Now I may indulge myself with a little bit more of sleep if I can.
I hope everyone is doing well or getting better. Happy Sunday.0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Sun is shining, and getting warm, hopefully today will turn out the same as yesterday, lovely warm sunny day all day.
DH and myself up and enjoying peaceful cuppas, although he seems to have got a cold, so he's hacking and coughing, and of course he's soooo ill...!? Sorry sympathy isn't my strong point, he's terribly unsympathetic to others so over the years I've learnt to deal with him.
Dinner last night was salad, hot chicken drumsticks in smoky marinade, saute new potatoes, boiled egg, turkey, pickles, HM ham pasta salad, dessert was ice cream for those that wanted it, yogurt for me. Lunch today is roast pork, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, cauli in cheese sauce, peas, yorkshire pud and gravy.
Today will just be a chill day, I have a wash load to peg out which I'll do shortly.
Keep safe and well x

Good Morning chums and a beautiful day it is today in Kent ,the sun is up and shining already and life is good.
Snoozer I am so pleased for you fingers crossed that your OH will get a swift and good treatment plan,
Cancer is a word that put the fear of God into many people, and rightly so, but every day more and more folk are getting treated and surviving
I am eleven years into remission, and every day is a winner for me .Even in my darkest days when I was terrified, I was determined this rotten bloody illness was not going to cart me off without a fight, it was my second brush with it, and I was certain it was curtains for me ,but thanks to the brilliant staff and Doctors here I am years later driving folk up the wall with my 'nil desperandum' attitude
I gave it a good kick up the backside with the help of modern medicine.
I know lots of folk are going through a very hard time at the moment and no doubt are fearful of the outcome, but every day you are here is a bonus, and that's what keeps me going.
I shall be clicking away agin today to get these blessed baby balls done I expect ,but as its such a gorgeous day I am going to go for a nice walk first to grab some of the late summer sunshine. It will soon be grey days with rain and possibly the white stuff so I shall get as much vitamin C as I can before winter descends on us once more .Its been a very good summer this year ,at times a bit too hot but we have all managed to get through it (although my garden is looking a bit dried up still) isn't it weird how your plants get completely ruined with lack of rain but it never stops the weeds from growing
I hope everyone has a great day whatever you are doing I amoff to Dds this afternoon for dinner tonight and will see my gorgeous DGS ben as he came home from Norwich late Friday night as he is finished at Uni and his summer job up there is over I am really looking forward to seeing him and catching up on stuff
Take care chums, we are all precious to someone

Good morning
Welcome home Jackiemum your holiday sounded amazing but its lovely to have you home I missed you :A
Holly enjoy your family time
Had a really lovely long sleep last night and no 4am to do listHelps to be in lovely fresh bedding. When I am rich and famous I will employ hotel type cleaners that come in daily and change the bedding.
Today is work prep day for a busy week ahead so its pjs and picky food. Week starts easily though tomorrow with a spa day with my friend but then ends crazily. Defrosted some HM pea and ham soup last night so will have that with some crusty bread. Its full of ham and perfect stick to your ribs soup so will enjoy that later.
Did anyone watch the new James series yesterday? The juries out on his beard but he has lost quite a bit of weight ...how he does that goodness knows...must be lots of exercise:o:D Cold shower time
So work is going to take up a lot of the day but will squeeze in some Simon Rimmer time. Nothing much else so I will sign off
Have a lovely day all0 -
Morning All
I'm off to Perth this morning to visit DS1 and the DGC, of course it's raining, the road I would use is closed and there are roadworks on the other road so it'll be a miserable journey.
Yesterday's move was good but only moved the living room and kitchen, the plasterer should be there today to finish the bedrooms then they can actually sleep there. One of BFs friends came round to look at the hot water system, it's a little strange but hopefully it's OK.
Pleased to hear you still have a tip to go to Gers, our two local ones have closed down, the company running them have gone into administration, I always thought it was the council. It's a bit worrying that folk may just flytip all over the place.
I hope your DH's illness is well controlled snoozer, I wish him well.
How's it all going TA?
Anyone heard from Meanmarie?
Have a happy Sunday everyone, take care. XX0 -
Good morning everyone
Usual Sunday morning routine of breakfast in bed with my laptop. I had a lovely 4 days in Majorca -it was hot and sunny so a lot of my time was spent on a sun lounger beside the pool or on the beach. It was quiet and relaxing - just what I needed before I go back to work on Wednesday. I did have a couple of trips into Palma, which is a lovely city.
Going down to my mam and dad's for lunch later. It was my birthday yesterday but I didn't see them as I was travelling home. No doubt dad will have 'jobs' for me to do on his laptop and I type his Sunday email to my DD in London....it's something they've done for the last few years now. Every Sunday she sends him an email with her news for the week and I type a reply for him.....he talks , I type.
DD had exciting news this week...on Thursday she was offered an internship for a month at one of the fashion magazines...to start tomorrow. She is so excited about it! Luckily the restaurant where she's working are letting her work weekends still....she needs that money to pay her rent.
Well I'd better get moving. I have washing to go out on the line and other jobs to do before I go out. Hope everyone has a good Sunday.0 -
Morning all
Its a lovely bright day here it looks like it will be like yesterday which turned out very warm it does get chilly in the evenings though.
OH got a lot of the flooring down yesterday and kickboards and end panels back on, unfortunately we have run out of the flooring so it all came to a halt, I need to order some more today and it will have to be finished next weekend.
Onto today I am going to prep the dinner this morning and then get puppy out for a long walk, she only had a quick one yesterday and needs to be worn out today.
Dinner will be a rib of beef I got reduced in Waitrose a while ago it was down too £2 ish, so a bargain there are about three or four short ribs there so will do u both im going to make dauphinoise potatoes and green veg with it, there is triffle for pudding.
Back to work for me tomorrow which I m not looking forward to but hey ho the bills need to be paid so work I must.
Thinking of you and dh snoozer.
I was wondering about specky and Tru the other day I hop they are ok xx
Have good days all xx0
