Avoid the national chains, most independents who supply and fit will give you a price per square metre finished not far off what you pay for the carpet alone in the showrooms.0

If you are going to decorate the house do not forget to paint the skirting boards BEFORE having the carpet fitted, looks better and no paint on the carpet.0

I assume carpet fitter will not fix that problem for you.0 -
Hi all, an update here:
I used the Choose at Home service from a local carpet company. Just want to sharing the quote with you all to see if it is a fair quote or not.
Four bedrooms, landing on the first floor and staircases quotes £1700. This includes the carpet (I can get the same carpet online at £10.39), Tredaire 11m underlay for all bedrooms and 9m underlay for landing and staircases.
The first lounge will have the same carpet and same underlay with the bedrooms. The quote is £590.
The second lounge will have a better carpet and still the Tredaire 11m underlay. The quote is £690. I tried to find the same carpet from online. The cheapest I can find online is £15.95 per square, but from https://www.cormarcarpets.co.uk/ it says £25-£30 per square.
All above includes delivery of carpets, uplift and dispose of old carpets, and most importantly fittings. Grippers and door bars are not quoted as the current ones can still be used.
To sum up, the quote will be around £2980. This excludes joiner who will tightening the floorboards beforehand and shaving the door afterwards.
By the way, my home is around 100 square meters (of course including kitchen and bathroom that do not need carpets) and I am based in North West. The carpet company owner said I am choosing top level carpets that should last 10-15 years.
Does the quote sound reasonable?0 -
Sounds good to me,I would also check and make sure that the fitting will also include trimming the doors0

£17 per square metre for carpet, underlay and fitting sounds very reasonable.0

May I ask from where you calculated £17 per square meter?0 -
I did some research and found that from online I can get the same carpet much cheaper than from local carpet shop. I think I may save quite a lot by ordering carpets and underlay online and then hire local fitters to do the rest of the job.
Any one can give me more suggestions about how to ensure the size of carpets and underlay I order will match with my home?
For example, if the total area of the floor is 90 square meters, can I simply order five carpets with 4m x 5m size (100 square meters in total)? Will the fitter be able to figure out how to cut the carpets properly in order to to fit into different rooms? Or do I have to consider the size of each room?0 -

Also by using separate fitters and suppliers, you do run the risk of any issues ending up in dispute. You find the carpet's looking a bit odd in one area, the fitters say "flaw in the carpet", the carpet supplier says "error in fitting".Signature removed for peace of mind0
