Car Insurance - Aviva no longer asking for occupation

I've just run a dummy quote at Aviva, as I'm coming up to retirement.

Three things were unusual.

Firstly, that I wasn't asked for my occupation. Just that "You or any named driver do not have one of the following occupations: Professional entertainer, footballer, boxer, gambler, chauffeur, taxi driver, driving instructor or parcel/takeaway/fast food delivery."

Secondly that I wasn't asked if I wanted business cover - I guess this may come up later?

Thirdly that there is now a huge list of modifications which no longer have to be declared:
  • Additional security (alarms, immobilisers, trackers)
  • Aftermarket audio/visual/DVD systems less than £1,000 in value
  • Air filter
  • Alloy wheels (manufacturer fitted)
  • Dashcams/In car CCTV
  • Driving lights/fog lights
  • Exhaust system changes
  • LPG conversion (professionally fitted)
  • Manufacturer optional extras fitted when vehicle was built
  • Modifications solely due to a disability
  • Parking sensors
  • Roof racks, roof bars, cycle racks, top boxes
  • Satellite navigation systems
  • Side steps/Bull bars
  • Sunroof
  • Tinted windows (conforming to legal requirements)
  • Towbar

Comments

  • Their adverts said they're not asking lots of silly questions about home insurance either, like lock type etc. Maybe they're doing the same kind of thing for car insurance as well.

Just done a quote on their website and it clearly asks your occupation.

That's strange - it didn't ask me that question. The whole reason I'd gone in to do a dummy quote was to see if my insurance would go up or down when I retired - so that;s the box I was looking for!

I've just tried it - no occupation question. The employment box is missing.
