Garuda Re-Routing

Garuda have cancelled our return flights from Jakarta to London at the beginning of November and instead, placed us on an overnight flight (was previously taking off at noon) to AMSTERDAM!! With absolutely no mention of how we should get back from Amsterdam.
Whilst I appreciate a refund will be made available to me; this does not seem adequate when you consider there are NO OTHER direct flights from Jakarta to London at that time of year. So this will add another 3 ish hours onto our journey time, give us an exhausting overnight flight, mean we are without hotel comfort for several hours (AMS flight takes off at 8pm) and cost us a lot more. We have pre paid for hotels so even a cancellation of the entire trip would cost us more money.
Does anyone know if Garuda have a duty of care to get us back to London? And how about compensation for the overnight flight and extra half day hotel costs? What are our rights here?

Garuda will reroute you back to London via Amsterdam. No EU261 as non-EU airline departing outside the EU0

Some info in the thread below may be helpful to you regarding getting your ticket rebooked through AMS.

Thank you for the information. I was advised that EU261 would apply as we are on a return trip which leaves from the UK; despite the fact that it is only the return flight that has been affected. Is this not the case?0

EU261 is applicable on all flights departing the EU and on EU carriers outside. A non-EU carrier with a flight departing outside the EU would not be covered (in the same way the flights from the US to UK are covered on EU airlines and not US carriers) Your outbound flight would be covered, the return not0 -
Seems Garuda have changed their minds -
The LHR route is reinstated from 27 November 2018.
