Visa Debit card problem - duplicated debits..again

For info:
Used my Co-op Visa Debit card 4 times Wednesday 29th August afternoon- at 3 businesses - paid contactless.

Just checking the ac this am - noticed two of the debits were duplicated.

After a 5 min long wait and another while CS investigated, she says there was a problem Thursday(?) with Visa debits being processed twice.

Used 4 times but only last 2 were duplicated.

So it may be connected to the processing being Thursday for the later transactions?

Anyway - she says it would have been corrected automatically.. but she's putting it through as disputed JIC.

If it is a large-scale duplication (e.g. a whole file of transactions has been processed twice) then there will be others in the same boat - not just Co-op Cardholders. As soon as the relevant processing bank (or payment scheme) has identified the issue (which looks to have happened already) they will reverse the whole file and you should be back to normal.

I had no problem on those dates with my Barclays visa debit card.

Numbers affected will vary depending on whether it was a retailer-duplicated file, a processing-bank-duplicated file or a payment-scheme-duplicated file.

Friends works in a bar and this has happened alot this week. Bank say its a fault their end

Had a message within the Starling Bank app regarding this, so not just a visa processing problem but mastercard too.

It was probably a payment processor that screwed up. If so only shops using the same payment processor would be affected. Or it could be Visa itself (unlikely though), or it could be the bank uploading the same file twice.

It's not that unusual.

I got the same problem with First Direct, visa as well! Last month I was checking my direct debites with them and I notice 2 DD with O2 came duplicate, 4 of them. I've called customer services, nothing to help from FD part.
I've called O2 customer services, they will investigate, now they are back to normal

This is a different problem, as Visa don't process direct debits. It sounds like a mistake from 02.

Call them again. When you state that you do not recognise/owe a direct debit your bank MUST refund you immediately. You do not need to speak to 02. Tell first direct to refund the direct debit under the direct debit guarantee and tell them you will make a complaint if they don't.

A payment last Wednesday 29th on my Barclaycard Visa credit card was duplicated.
This was to the local vets. They say all their card payments processed that day were duplicated.
I guess it was a payment processor error.

Ah, my blind eyes just posted a thread about this without seeing yours! I've also had a duplicated payment but it's now cleared, not sure sure if that means it'll take longer to sort or not?
