Autoaid
Looks like Autoaid has started, (don't know from when), covering "common law partners", as there is no legal qualification for this I am surprised they are now covering them as they did not re my policy from last year.
"Your legal spouse, civil or common law partner is covered under our Car Breakdown and Recovery policy for no additional cost!*"
There is an asterisk but I cannot find the "link" to it
From my policy document from last year: "
If the vehicle cannot be driven as a result of a breakdown
which happens while you or your legal spouse or civil
partner are driving, we will provide the services shown below
as long as you have paid the appropriate premium and as
long as they are as a direct result of the breakdown.
No mention of "common law partners"

It's not totally pointless: since "common law partner" is a meaningless term in the UK, it might be helpful to potential customers to know exactly what Autoaid think it means.0 -

Looking at their webpage it looks like your partner (civil, married or whatever) has to be named on the schedule so I can't see it makes much difference, they appear happy to cover them so long as they are nominated when the policy is taken out.0 -
When you apply for a policy it brings this up which explains their stance:
Spouse/civil partner/common law partner
Please note that if your spouse/civil partner does not have the same surname as you, we need to see a copy of your marriage/civil partnership certificate. If you are in a Common Law Partnership you will need to provide proof of partnership, the following documents are accepted:
Joint bank statement
Shared ownership of residential property
Joint leases or rental agreements
Bills for shared utility accounts, such as:
Gas
Electricity
Telephone
Joint utility accounts
Joint life insurance schedule
The documents must be in joint names. A joint policy will be issued at this time, however we will require proof of partnership within 7 days or the additional person will be removed until we receive such proof. Please send requested proof to the below:
