Heritage Open Days 2018

Options
Every year during September, the public are invited to visit buildings and places for free. These can be places where there is normally an admission charge, or places/buildings which are generally not open to the public, or taking you behind the scenes. Check your own local area for dates. It started as just 1 weekend but now often runs throughout the whole month.
In England it's called "heritage days".
Wales run a similar scheme called "Open Doors".

Heritage Open Days 2018 will be 6-9 & 13-16 September
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I had a look the other week, there's nothing of any use/value anywhere near where I live that I could spot at the time.

Ditto when I've looked in previous years.

Mostly dull "exhibitions" (aka a wall with stuff pinned to it) in buildings such as libraries.

Maybe I look too early ... and stuff's not added until the last minute.

Wales is throughout September. I've found 2 I want to visit on 29th and 30th September. And there are many National Trust properties with free access in both England and Wales.

    Then travel!

Aside from the paid admission sites that allow free entry on the day, the whole point of Heritage Open Days is to allow access to sites that are not normally open to the public.

I used to give free tours of Garrison Point Fort in Sheerness until the Port closed down their PR Office. Most sites aren't full day or half day visits but generally very small but locally historic.

I've travelled to visit the Giants of Brede and Brighton Sewer Tours in previous years.
