I know that fungi is widespread but I seem to be seeing more evidence above ground this year compared with other years and it has left me wondering why.
Could be a result of the long spell of dry weather but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
Any ideas?

I normally have a lot of different fungi in my garden (probably because I have big trees and don’t use moss-killer on the lawn). Not sure where in Scotland you are, but my fungi season would normally be starting around now but not much sign as yet! Lot of badger damage, though, so perhaps Mr Brock is digging them before they appear above ground!0

We have a good number of different sorts, including two solitary mushrooms, never normally available here.
However, as yet, no giant puffballs, so no puffball omlette, puffball steaks, puffball au gratin, puffball soup, puffball curry, puffball smoothies......OK I'm making them up now, but you get the idea!0 -
I am in Fife
I don't have any above ground yet in my own garden but a neighbour is plagued by at least 3 different types and I am seeing all sorts of shapes and colours all over the place when out walking.
I can't eat them myself as I am allergic, I get quite violently sick about an hour after ingesting mushrooms0 -

Warm/hot summer thoroughly warming the ground, followed by wet (or at least damp) and still (mostly) warm (compared to a few hot days in spring followed by miserable cool damp "summer" of past x years) - ideal fungi conditions - best quantity and variety of fungi seen for years here in mid Wales. Ate 4 or 5 diff species of Boletus (one from garden, others from local forest) for teatime starter this evening!0
