This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
I’ve managed to sleep for nearly a couple of hours longer than I have been, and feel much better for it.
I don't know where this year has gone, September already, this year seems to have gone really fast.
I was really lucky yesterday and had a last minute invite to join a friend for afternoon tea at a really nice up market hotel near here. Needless to say the food was excellent. We then went back to her house for the evening. It was such a nice treat.
Today, first thing I will do a little bit of shopping and then spend the day batch cooking. I’ve drawn up a list of things I want to make. While the oven is on I will probably make some cakes to go in the freezer as well.
Nannywindow I’mso sorry to hear that your dad is being difficult. I hope that you have a good holiday. If you and Nelski are lucky your dad will run off with her mum.
AOD it’s good that you are managing to sleep a bit better now and again. It sounds like the brownies your son made fantastic, I could live with getting up to that sort of treat.
Camelot I hope that you enjoyed the party yesterday.
Hugs to the TAs.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.
I've slept better and feel a bit more like a human rather than a snarling beast. I got up an hour ago, desperate for the loo, only to find that DS was having a long shower. Eventually he emerged thank goodness. It is odd, I shower, wash my hair and get dry in a very short time but my OH and DS like to be in there for ages. But then, neither of them likes a bath and I do, a long bubble bath with a book is my weekly treat. Wasteful I know but not a daily occurrence, the rest of the time it is a shower for me too.
I don't have real plans today but need to tidy up in the spare room, it looks like a jumble sale. And must do a bit of ironing. OH will cook, they will eat vast quantities of meat and I am having a bit of salmon.
Hope everyone has a good day and positive thoughts to those who are unwell or worried.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning folks and thanks HOLLY.
Our third night since Mr TA's "release" from the hospital from hell was, amazingly, uneventful and I slept till 5.00. But boy did I need it. I checked, double checked and triple checked the catheter night bag attachment before I went to bed. I didn't want another flooded bed. Our bed is still drying out after the good scrub of the mattress so Mr TA slept in eldest DGDs bed (with a plastic sheet on just in case of another flood) and I slept in Smyths toy shop, which is the younger two DGDs room! I have just disconnected the bed bag and he now has just the leg bag on. That should last without emptying until he wakes again about 8.00 and it's medication time.
DS popped in on his way home from an early shift, followed by my DB and SIL who stayed for a couple of hours. It was lovely to have the company of non-medical people to take our mind off all that's going on. Today we have a Royal Visit! Mr TA's eldest sis and BIL are calling up late morning. I hope I have time to flick the duster around and a quick vac (where it shows!) before they arrive!
After our first attempt at showering Mr TA in the electronic shower/bath contraption yesterday morning (resulting in a flooded bathroom floor, a soaked me and even more wet stuff to wash) he is going to pass on it this morning and try a sort of soak in the bath this evening. It should be less messy I hope!
Have a good day folks if you can. ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, carers, sad and worried amongst us and take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Clear sky and sunshine, but air is cool, but if it's going to be a day like yesterday it'll warm up nicely.
DH and myself enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I've showered, dressed and just finished my brekkie, I'm working this morning.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk. I had baked fish and vegetables, dessert was peach and yogurt. Today will be something with salad and I have some cooked new potatoes in the fridge which need using up, possible saute them to go with the salad.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got some housework done, kept going with the washing, drying and ironing, although lovely outside washing taking a while to dry, have some that wasn't that dry that we brought in last night, I'll put that back out this morning. Both boys have plans today, so when I get back from work DH and I will be visiting the parents.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
TA - sorry, I had a wee giggle at your description of the attempt at showering. You'll get the hang of it one day b
I've just woken out of a vivid dream, I hardly ever remember dreaming. I was trying to be a sales assistant and failing dismally at using the till. Either the till was faulty or I was rubbish at it. :rotfl:
This morning I'll be doing DM's ever decreasing shopping. She's not eating much so too much is being thrown out. Mind you she devoured every scrap of an oven ready breaded haddock and chips on Thursday.
I'll be heading home after shopping. My life has contracted somewhat since the start of March, and it sounds dull. Anyway, not complaining, just observing!!
Meanwhile I wish everyone a happy Saturday.0 -
Morning
Manic day yesterday went fine but I was shattered when I finally got to bed at midnight. 4am brain woke me up about some stuff I need to plan for October and didn't get back to sleep so don't feel I have been to bed at all.
Trip to the lakes was lovely, sun shone all the way there and back. Meeting went well and the M6 was relatively well behaved. Evening coaching was good but it is wearing me out need to re negotiate the timings I think
Bedding in so hoping for another sunny day another wash after that the a tidy downstairs. Age Uk call this morning ...hoping she is a little better she really hasn't been well the last few calls and after all the years of chatting I really wish I could visit her for real.
Food wise Ill grab something out of the freezer really need to get back to using stuff up in there.
Have a lovely day all0 -
Morning All
Back to grey skies and drizzle this morning, yesterday was glorious, I even got the grass cut!
The party last night was really good, I had a thoroughly good time without a drop of alcohol! My legs are a big achy this morning though as I threw myself around the dance floor quite a bit!
Yoga and then DD's big house move, they have to do it sometime so today it is. Can't say I'm looking forward to it, she'll have a meltdown at some point!
I had a lovely surprise yesterday, DD's BF emailed me a voucher for a spa day for 2 with 2 treatments, lunch and the use of the facilities as a thank you for my help. I think I quite like him!
Hope everyone is OK and the poorlies and carers are getting there, have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Holly, TA and AOD, I'm glad you managed better sleeps.
Nelski, I was thinking about your journey yesterday afternoon, knowing how bad the M6 can get around the Warrington area, or d you turn off before then? I'm glad it wasn't so bad.
Steve is planning our next trip in the van to the Kent coast so we can walk/cycle from Faversham to Dover! Depending on how his appointment goes we will pprobably go mid-September. He's still got to tell work that he won't be going back but he wants to wait until after the appintent for that.
I spoke to Steve's sister yesterday, she's really worried about the puppy her son's family got in April. They got her partly because the little girl is on the chubby side and they want to encourage her to walk (she's 9 and was begging for a dog) they also have a nearly 4 year old boy. They gt a Portuguese water dog and although I warned them that they were very energetic I was told in no uncertain terms that I wouldn't change their minds. She is a lovely puppy but boisterous and is becoming quite difficult to handle and I don't think she is getting the attention she needs and then she becomes more boisterous and uncontrollable. I wish we could take her for a little while because we could concentrate on her and train her a bit.0 -
Morning everyone,
Beautiful day here in EA and it’s meant to be warm over the next few days, lovely.
Not masses planned for today, bit of gardening and will ride Lu later, just a quiet gentle day really.
Am off to Burghley HT tomorrow with some friends from the yard, it’s an early start as we want to get there for just after 8am but am looking forward to seeing all the big names of 3 day eventing and their lovely horses
Glad last night was less traumatic TA and you managed some sleep, good luck with bathtime!
That sounds a very long day Nelski
Hope the move goes well Camelot
That does sound like the behaviour of a dog that isn’t getting enough attention /exercise Snoozer could you volunteer to have her for a training break?
Have a good day folks x0 -

Your right snoozer and after hours worth of clear road the only problem was 5 miles from home ....45mins delay...I could have deserted the car and walked quicker
Lainey enjoy the Burghley HT .. I am a little bit jealous0
