Cancelled direct debit too early

Options
I have a rolling monthly gym membership which I cancelled today, asking that my final month be September i.e. final payment 1st September (tomorrow), with gym access until the end of the month.

The gym replied confirming that was fine and said I just need to cancel the direct debit to complete the cancellation.

I've got a very long to-do list at the moment so decided to log onto online banking and cancel straight away (I thought I was being efficient!). However, I've now realised I've cancelled before they've taken the final payment (due tomorrow)!

I've called the gym and they said to make the payment by card next time I go to the gym, which is fine with me. However, given they may try to take payment and not be able to, will this affect my credit rating? Currently buying a property so keen not to have a little thing like this affect my credit score...

You don't have a credit score so no concerns on that front.

And as long as you make the payment as agreed, there is no reason for any marker to appear on your credit files either.
  • Unless the gym membership is reported to your credit files, then you’re credit history (not the made up score) will be fine.

Just make the manual payment as advised.

Thanks both. No intention of not making the payment - I'm running a half marathon soon and need gym access for final few weeks of training!
