I have a debt which was I defaulted on in Jan 2014. Will that debt be wiped off 6 years from that date? So it will be wiped off on Jan 2020? Or is it only wiped form your file from the date the debt was actually paid off? So say I paid it today, it will take another 6 years to be wiped off? I live in England.

The default will drop off your credit file six years from the date of default - Jan 2020
Edit: And welcome to the forumI work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

Cool. Thank you.0

However until then it’s still enforceable if money is still owed.
And if they get a CCJ that will set the clock to 6 years again from the date of judgement unless the CCJ is paid in full within 30 days of judgement.
If you owe money, pay it back!0 -
The debt was paid off in 2014 but they don't seem to have updated my credit report.... I am going to call them on Monday to find out why they have;t done it.
Another question. When the default is wiped off on Feb 2020, will my credit score go up instantly? If not how long does it take for it to reflect in the score?0 -
Why ask about it being paid today then?
How does the debt show on all 3 of your credit files?
Ignore your score. It’s a fictitious number that no one sees or uses0 -
Part of the question was just hypothetical. I wanted to find out how the score works.
How do you mean all 3 of my credit files? And what do you mean about no one sees or uses it?0 -
I thought that banks use your score when deciding whether to give you a mortgage/loan?0

No one sees or cares about your score. Lenders only use the data on your files.
The score is just the financial equivalent of horoscopes. Fun if you like that sort of thing, but entirely pointless.0 -
How do you know your report isn’t updated?
You need to check all 3 CRA’s
Clearscore for Equifax
Noddle for CallCredit/Transunion
MSE Credit Club for Experian
The scores are made up by the CRA’s and lenders do not see or use them or judge your credit worthiness from it0 -
I didn't know that the actual score didn't matter.
I got my file information from Noodle. I signed up to Clearscore, but it said that It couldn't find any data in my file...Not too sure why. And I think you need to pay for Experian so I didn't sign up to that fully. Although I can see my score through Experian, I can't see any other data though.
Why do I need to check all 3 CRA's? Can't I just use Noodle? I can see everything on there.0
