Following Fund Managers

Does anyone know of a consolidated source for information about fund managers and their movements across companies or funds?

One of the tips is to follow a fund manager with a good record, especially if s/he's moving to pick up a poor performing fund. (I mean who wouldn't have put money into Accrington Stanley if Antony Bolton had been managing it?!)

This information seems to be available only to the 'big boys' or if one spends inordinate amounts of time researching each individual .....

    Citywire too, rates Fund Managers

It also keeps up to date on any Fund Manager moves, and usually posts this information pretty quicky.

Ultimately though the man/woman in the street will always be the last to know. It has to be factored in as an additional ( if very small ) risk on Fund Investing.

  • There can be problems moving around after fund managers. They might not suit the culture of the fund they are moving to and struggle a bit. (Is James Mitchison an example of this?).

Another option is to have a reserve fund in mind so that if the fund manager where you have your money leaves you have an immediate bolt hole if you need it.

It is a really interesting one this becuase there is also the example of Philip Ehrman (think that's the name?) who moved to Jupiter China which has performed well and Charlie Awdrey who took over his fund at Gartmore which has also done very well.

The bolt hole idea sounds good because you are moving to another good fund with an established manager.
