Windows explorer keeps crashing

Hoping someone can help me out. HDD failed on my desktop last week, not the windows one, thats an SSD, the 1TB storage drive, ordered a replacement from amazon, installed, all fine. Everything was backed up so nothing lost. I did a fresh install of windows thinking that was the reason the PC would hang on start up, but turns out it was the drive.
But since I replaced the drive and did a reinstall of windows, explorer keeps crashing. Any open folders will close and the taskbar with vanish for a second, no error codes, nothing.
It's really bugging me now though, I've no idea where to look to figure out what's causing it and stop it.
Anyone advise?
Thanks

The HDD that wasn't the windows drive failed - that should have zero affect on window's stability.
Something else is up.
For example, a PSU issue that blew the HDD in the first place.0 -
A friend had this problem a while back. I think I found that it was a problem with the antivirus Explorer extension.
If you (temporarily) uninstall the antivirus, does Explorer function normally? If so, antivirus makers often provide a special "uninstaller" that you can download from their site (because the default uninstaller is full of bugs). You could try running that to clear up any remnants of a "problematic" installation, then reboot, and try installing the antivirus from scratch.
Also, errors like this should be listed in the Event Log, along with a message and code that (should) identify the cause of the application crash. I think you can access it via Control Panel or Administrative Tools (from memory).0 -
Thanks for the replies. I can’t quote on my phone for some reason.
Yeah have installed all drivers.
The drive is 10+ years old, transferred it from my old PC when I built this one. It’s a Corsair PSU.
I use windows own anti virus and disabling that does nothing.
Google showed a number of fixes, the first usually to with a network mapping issue so have tried the fixes for that. Will see tomorrow if they help.Sigless0 -
Try to disable the Preview pane in Windows Explorer.0

first place to look is EventViewer
the second chkdsk all drives, like chkdsk c: /r /f
the third place to look is system file checker
the fourth place is to check you software is up to date
the fifth is spyware
sixth is if you are trying to copy snuff off your old corrupt hard disk, then this could happen.0 -
A lot of articles on google suggested an issue with network drive mapping so suggested resetting winsoc which I’ve done.
Am currently checking both storage driver for errors to see if that’s the issue.
Obviously only time will tell if any of this has actually worked.
No, not trying to copy from the corrupt drive. I have everything backed up so restored from that.Sigless0 -
This is true if the source or destination is on the internet with a bad connection. Also true if you have an intermittent duff nic cable somewhere along the line. I do get this at home too if i copy file to my usb and while copying and I inadvertently remove my usb due to a bad usb connector.A lot of articles on google suggested an issue with network drive mapping
You should be checking the broadcom or intel or realtek etc. sites for the latest nic drivers for all devices.
As someone who copies files across a internal network that can take weeks, I can only say network drives are generally very stable0
