State pension NI years

The forecasts state the SP you will receive. COPE is a number used to calculate in the calculation. The only reason for it being provided is as a clue as to why some people may not receive a full pension despite having 35 years NI.Isn’t the amount stated the total pension including the cope which is provided elsewhere?0 -
Thanks.
The landing page says
£164.35 is the most you can get
You cannot improve your forecast any more.
I thought that was assuming I kept paying until sp age.
I think you're saying that's what I've accrued to date even if I stopped paying now?
Minus the £31.06 COPE. Bit sneaky not making that more prominent.
Makes a bit more sense what people are saying.
Bit concerned about the caveats if I can't check their calculation from my NI record.
Surely you have more than one amount showing on your forecast from the DWP site? I had at least three, what I have now(well 2016 forecast when I looked a month ago) what I will get at 2017 and the most I can achieve so long as I work and pay NI until April 2019, I will still be paying NI until December 2019 when I retire but won't get my SP until March 2020. I also have 48 years showing as paid. I cannot get the "full" SP because I was contracted out but have improved the amount by continuing to work after the 2016 SP change. It also tells me, like you say, what my COPE amount is. I look at the COPE by adding it to my SP, even though it is in my FSP, so technically my SP would be around £210 a week. 2016 SP change was meant to make it easier but I think they confuse people by the wording. Thankfully we have sites like MSE to explain it.Paddle No 21 :wave:0 -
If you have already reached or exceeded the magic number then that is the only one they showGibbsRule_No3 wrote: »Surely you have more than one amount showing on your forecast from the DWP site? ......0 -

Do not look at COPE like that - look at it as an either/or... either you paid into SERPS/S2P and would then have got that much extra SP, OR you were contracted out and have SP plus an occupational/private pension amount.
The whole stating of the COPE amount was the most confusing thig for people with the new system

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

How do you find out your contributions so far with regards NI ?0

That's why the initial advice should always be for posters to get a personal pension forecast - once people on these boards can see what that says they can generally advise on if any action is required to optimise the pension, and what the options are.0 -

Your pension forecast will indicate how many years of contributions you have
https://www.gov.uk/check-state-pension
- or if you have a Government Gateway account or have set up a personal tax account you can get a more detailed record online from HMRC
https://www.gov.uk/check-national-insurance-record0 -
Enter your Government Gateway credentials to sign in. You received these when you created your HMRC online account.
I have never signed up to this .
