Legal and General Surveyors

Hi All,
We are in the process of buying a house. Have a mortgage appt. in couple of days and broker told us that the lender offers free valuation and are able to upgrade to homebuyers report for additional £295.
The lender use Legal and General Surveyors. Does anyone have any experience with them? Wouldn't it be better to instruct independent surveyors instead (approx. £600) to get the homebuyers report?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would use their surveyor. Sometimes L&G can be slow, but that's usually at busy times of the year or during holidays.
It's not like using a developer's recommended solicitor who may not have your best interests at heart. The lender will be just as keen for a 'proper' survey as you.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -

L&G is the panel manager. It doesn't necessarily follow L&G Surveyors has coverage in the area in question so it may be "panelled" to another firm.I am a mortgage broker. The lender is Accord. I think the question is more about overall reliability of L&G Surveyors or any personal experience as well how objective they are if commissioned by the lender rather than independently by us.0

Yes. However, if L&G don't actually DO the survey because they pass it to a third party, the discussion is moot, no?
You'd need to know who L&G might panel it to in your area and check their feedback.
Don't know if L&G manage the Accord panel. Never use them. As a newbuild specialist we can't rely on their service.I am a mortgage broker. We used Finance Planning Surveying Serviced LTD via L&G and they had completed the survey within a week of application and we got a copy around 2 working days later. I think it depends on availability but it has been one of the smoothest parts of the process0
