Not sure if I had PPI

Hi all
I've had various cards and loans (opened & closed) in the past with various organisations but have no idea if I had PPI with any of them.
Is there a way of checking is it best to use a claims company who can just check your financial history and do it for you in this case?
Any advise appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

Never use a claims company for anything. They can't check your history for you. They just sell very expensive stamps.
Your credit files will show the last 6 years. Everything else is in your filing and memory.
Once you know our lenders, ask them if you had PPI.0 -
Your financial history is not in the public domain. CMCs cant access your history beyond you agreeing for them to do a credit file check which only goes back 6 years. Is there a way of checking is it best to use a claims company who can just check your financial history and do it for you in this case?
What the CMCs often do it contact the main lenders who account for 85% of PPI sold (i.e the big banks).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). easiest way to find out is to fill in a FOSQ with as much knowledge as you can remember for the lenders you know you had products with and send them off.
barclays have an online PPI checker which is useful, submit your details and you'll get a letter which breakdowns products you have and whether they had PPI. from there you can use that info to make a complaint.0 -

Thanks can I ask ...
What is a fosq? And does every bank have one? What about ones that don't exist anymore ?0 -
The other poster means (I assume) an Ombudsman Questionnaire form (Financial Ombudsman Service Questionnaire or FOSQ)What is a fosq?
He is suggesting that you "complain" about PPI you may not even have had!
You can send the completed form to any financial institution.does every bank have one?
The wisest course of action, though, is simply to write or call the Banks concerned and ask them if you had PPI, you can then act accordingly. Do note that most people did not have PPI.
Well, you can hardly contact them directly but they may have been taken over by other Banks which have assumed liability for previous mis-selling.What about ones that don't exist anymore ?0 -
