I have manged to get a couple of freebie return tickets to PAris for a day on th enew Eurostar thing. We arrive at 12:47 and train back is 21:13 . We go into Gare Du Nord.
Having not been to Paris since 1981 when I was 9 , I cant think for the life of me what to do.
Things we definatley want to do
1) Eifell Tower
2) Arc Du Triumph
3) Notre Dam
In that orde rof importance. We arent bothered about going up the tower or into Notre Damn.
Is this feasable in the time we have? Does anyone have any good hints on places to eat that are not too expensive? Can you bring back duty free on the Eurostar train thing.?

Yes you could do all that in the time quite easily as the gare du nord is in the centre of paris and easy to get to and from.
Plus eurostar you only need to book in 30 mins before.
Yes you can take duty free -or as much as you want if you buy it tax paid in the shops but there are luggage restrictions on eurostar I think it is one case only?
BUT WHERE DID U GET FREE TICKETS??? cos I want some.0 -
Look up the paris metro site to look at a map so you can plan your day. http://www.paris.org/Metro/ There are a couple of good sandwich shops near Sacre Coeur and good views . There are a few tourist stalls near Notre Dame which are okay. I would add the Pompidou centre...you can sit inside, use toilets etc for free.0

Paris is fairly small, so getting to these places would not be a problem.
The metro is super efficient, but consider taking buses so that you can enjoy the views of the city as you go past. Or, if you are feeling adventurous, there is an automated bicycle-hire system: cycling around Paris is really something.
To correct information given above: no, there is no scope for duty-free since you will not be leaving the EU. However, beer and wine can be very cheap at local shops, and there is no restriction on how much you bring back for personal consumption (at a certain level Customs get suspicious, but that is more than you would be able to carry on the train). Similarly, tobacco and perfume (and coffee, come to that) can cost a lot less than in Britain, and in practice you are allowed to bring back all that you can carry.
Eating out: I had a really good meal in a little restaurant at 20 rue Boulanger on the left bank (main university district, near the Pantheon).0 -
