Nationwide Building Society

I am sure that a lot of people on these boards can criticise Nationwide, but I thought that I should let people know that we have had brilliant service with them.

My husband paid in a large cheque to our current account on Thursday. The cashier said quietly, 'I hope you are not going to just leave in in the current account'. She was not asking for business, just pointing out that he would not get the benefit if it stayed in a low interest account.

A few years ago I had my bag stolen in the town centre. I could walk into the Nationwide, so I went in to cancel my card. They sat me down, let me use their phone to call Barclaycard after looking up the numbers for me and asked the obvious question 'have you the bus fare home?'. They checked my signature and allowed me to make a withdrawal, and were very kind and supportive.

Even further back I worked as a Civil Servant and they asked whether I wanted PPI as they thought it would be wasted on me. As it was, there were redundancies going round and I chose to take it, but they did offer the option not to, even though this is over 10 years ago and the 'reclaim' campaign wasn't even thought of.

I know they can be really tough if you challenge them from reading other threads, but they have been really good to me. In a different branch in a different county they were lovely to my mother, especially when she was dying of breast cancer. I would recommend them to anyone.
Always another chapter

  • I can second that.

I have found them excellent over the 5 years that I have been with them. The couter service is always pleasant and polite and the on line service (and interest rates) are good.

One of the better financial establishments in my opinion.

I have found them to be top drawer for , I guess about 20 years, .... until last few days and I now want to move away.

Since Friday I have had problems getting into my online banking - on ringing them they were unhelpful and frankly quite rude and didn't seem interested in helping.

I thought I'd ring my branches manager (ah the days when one could have a relationship with ones bank manager and get them to address issues) only to find the branch were too busy to take any calls and would call back !!!!!:eek:

I did eventually get into my online banking (memorable data had been forgotten by myself and then on going to re-register it prompted me and I managed to get in )

So today I go to log in and use **EXACTLY** the same details that let me in Friday and it said I had entered the information incorrectly :confused: No I really, really haven't - I used the same details that let me in on Friday.

i can't afford to waste time trying to get this sort of stuff sorted and then get no joy anyway .

Time to move I feel - just need to find someone who lets me have 2 current accounts and unlimited e-accounts and easy transfer between all accounts. Of course a decent (not necesarilly THE best) interest rates would be good. Clearly a good customer service with quick replies and UK based staff only.

    Any suggestions anyone please ?

    thanks

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying
