Where to buy cheap furniture for a newly bought flat

Google furniture packages in your area.
Landlords usually get these for furnishing their flats. But they come in configurations for a 1, 2 or 3 bed flat. i.e. what ever your requirement is.0 -
You can get some nice pieces from auction houses or gumtree. I think most modern furniture is absolute tat.
We bought two sofas in mint condition for £150; the model was still available for sale at £800. Modern tat, but the other half liked them..0 -
Also places like B&M and the Range can have furniture set up in store so you can see it before you buy it. Some of their furniture can be good for the money but some bits are false economy as then don't last.
Places like DFS usually do interest free over a number of years and have an area where there are bits of furniture from cancellations or returns which are a bit cheaper0 -
I often prefer Wilko to Ikea. Their basic plates, bowls, etc set is I think less than a tenner and brilliant quality, as are their hi-ball glasses.
Don't forget ebay. I have found things cheaper there (new) than online shops. Also, second hand is fine. If you want quality, you can pick up a mahogany table and chairs for less than £100. Here's a table, 6 chairs and sideboard for £75 (although may increase) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mahogany-Dining-table-chairs-and-sideboard/173498807738?hash=item286555b5ba:g:49QAAOSwUv5baJkM
Lots of other deals to be had.
I also like Wayfair.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
i like stylish mid-century furniture in flats because it is compact. I find items on ebay - ideally from people running an ebay shop or with multiple items. Some items are very pricey but many are very affordable. Use phrases like "mid-century" in your search and it will throw up loads of stuff. i sort by distance so i can see what is near and what isnt.0

Facebook marketplace - we sold some excellent quality wardrobes and our washing machine on there, cheap for a quick sale after our move. Definitely worth a look.0

Salvation Army, charity furniture recycling shop - they usually have a delivery arrangement.
If your area still uses proper Fairway taxis, you can get an upright piano in one :-)A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

I will be buying a new flat shortly, and it will be like most properties that are bought, i.e. unfurnished, barring a few items that the seller may leave behind.
I was just wanting to find out what the best, most affordable way is of furnishing a property without breaking the bank. I'm not looking to find items on freecycle or freegle as this can end up more time consuming and expensive than its worth - driving from place to place to pick up items (in my case having to hire a car first before doing this).
John Lewis is obviously a well known reliable & favourite retailer, but a little on the expensive side.
Thanks,
Peter
I take it you don't have a car? Where do you live, getting to Ikea can be tricky without a car.
As others have said, charity shops have some good stuff. There is one near us that had 3 floors of excellent quality furniture, they are in a 3 storey old Art Deco cinema.
Have you thought about Shpock? They have have loads of furniture.0 -
I furnished mine from eBay.0

I suspect that the OP is being a little precious and wants brand new stuff and not somebody elses cast offs. Thats all well and good but brand new costs money, even Ikea isn't inexpensive anymore. Saying that the OP should get searching on the net and getting an idea on prices compared to the actual budget if there is one. Also depending on where this flat is the OP should look at local mills/outlets especially Asian owned, deals can be done.
Lastly don't buy 2nd hand gas appliances without the appropriate labels
