Not necessarily. If she can repay £250 a month she can set up a Standing Order for 71 payments, and change her phone number. As long as she keeps paying the money she won't need to contact him and he won't need to contact her.

That seems like the best solution to me too.

This seems obvious to me I will suggest this. Whats to say he wouldn't find some other way to get in touch though.

Then she can look into restraining orders.

You need to separate the debt from the harassment.

She needs to pay the debt back as agreed. If she doesn't, he can take her to court.

He needs to stop harassing her. If he doesn't, she can take him to court.

But the two things aren't linked.

Absolutely, they need to be seen and dealt with as separate matters. When you break it down like that the solutions are quite simple as Jimmythewig has highlighted

Sounds like a friend you need to be very wary of when it comes to money OP!

Keep any windfalls stum and dont ever lend her a penny!
  • If it's all drawn up and both parties are happy (with no other avenues available) then just go with the repayment plan.

It's worth noting that 71x £250 is £17,750 so that repayment does include interest - in this situation I'd suggest asking for this to be removed.
