When i turn it on no water comes out.
Would it be possible to check it myself? Anyone ever fixed their own shower ? it could just be a minor problem like changing something out. if it's broken already i might as well have a go if there's step by step tutorials online?

It looks like you can buy spare components for showers, e.g.

If it was something like a solenoid valve that's failed, you might be able to change it, though you'd need some electrical fault-finding knowledge to find the problem. Plus be competent working with electrics.
Not repaired one myself. I go the middle way of buying a replacement shower exactly the same as the old one (exactly the same power rating too) so that it's easy to replace with the pipe and electrics being in the same place. That at least saves the installation cost against what a plumber would charge.
Electric showers are generally showing their age by the time they fail so a whole new one feels worthwhile as they aren't too expensive.
Be interesting to hear from people who have managed to repair one though.0 -
This happened to me and I ended up buying a new one. Although it was the same model I had it installed by a plumber who charged £40. The one thing I did find was a big variation in the cost of the shower. The plumber did not wish to buy it (VAT considerations) and the place he suggested was over £150 more than Screwfix. All bliss since installation 18 months ago.0

I have replaced my electric shower. It's not daunting as long as you isolate the electrical supply (I just turn everything off at the fusebox). The problems with some electric showers is that the either the cost of part isn't far off the cost of whole new shower unit, or there isn't a replaceable or servicable item, so the whole thing needs replacing either way.
If you are able to, I would:
- disconnect the hose and shower head to make sure there's no blockage
- check to see if the inlet filter needs cleaning
- check to see if there's a blockage or problem with the water feed
It might be worth posting up the shower name and model number. Sometimes showerdoc has spares too. If you do replace it, it's easiest if it's a current model. Some showers need more power, which means you need to make sure the wiring can handle it, so you may need to be careful which replacement shower you use. Also, the input for the wiring and water feeds are in different places for different showers (even from the same company).
FWIW my newer shower is 9.5kW rather than the older 10.5kW one but the water pressure is better and the temperature is hotter.0 -
Ihave repaired an electric shower in teh past. It was a mira so replacement was a few hundres pounds hence deciding to give a repair a go. Same symptoms as the OP and it turned out to be the solinoid valve - dead easy to fix. it took longer to pull the pipes apart and isolate than actually do the repair (well repalcement bit really as it uncliped and clipped anew one in its place).YNWA

Thanks for all your suggestions
I'm such a moron I just checked the circuit box orr whatever it was called and saw one of the switches was off. Must have had an electricity trip or whatever switched it back on. Voila . LOL0 -
For my rentals, I have a spare for each shower unit. Any time they break, it's a quick job to swap. Then I bring the duff one home, and can often repair it at my leisure.
Maybe an idea to get a spare for yours?0
