We recently purchased a wowcher for a bed purported to be worth £800. The bed arrived and was damaged so sought a replacement. What occurred next was a farce with Wowcher blaming everything but themselves and trying to palm off unreasonable demands and abuse of Consumer rights as reasonable and normal practice along with siding with the Merchant. Anyway Imanaged to overcome all their hurdles and the Merchants as thankfully I logged and copied everything and videoed it all and although both have agreed to refund the money in writing it still has not arrived yet - However that's not why I am posting.
When I started looking into what had happened and the set up I became very concerned as there seemed to be some very underhand practices. The Company purporting to be the Merchant was listed at the same address as a fashion company and this company had the same people involved as another company who were actually advertising the exact same bed as Wowcher was for under £300 the same price as the wowcher so in fact no discount here at all. More to the point the Bed was not and could never be fit for purpose (verified independantly as part of card dispute process)
Interestingly Wowcher did not like the Trustpilot review and tried to block this for many spurious reasons all of which in the end failed and it went live with actual copies of the emails minus purported personal details of their advisors, the same advisors that had no problem having their names attached to purported 5 star reviews. There are also two Wowchers on trustpilot one listed as .com the other as .co.uk. Both have differing ratings with .com being the worst and all bad but its the same company. There are not two Wowchers. reading through the .co.uk site it seemed that this was mainly good reviews- with the same advisors names thanking them for their review. However the .com has all bad -
These are not one off bad reviews there are tons of them from non existent goods to failures to refund despite masses of evidence of fault. Not just on Trustpilot but on this forum and others I have looked at.
It took me just under an hour to find out the Companies and directors etc and track the chain of events - it took me 30 minutes more to electronically collate the information off the sites and ten minutes to identify 5 star generic review trends.
Really my question has got to be - How has this company Excalibur Group and its practices on Wowcher been allowed to advertise on National TV and not been investigated by Trading standards?

Basically, Trading Standards has been starved of funds by this Government.0

It seems Wowcher don’t check the company’s.
I bought a course which said it was NUS eligible only to find out that oplexcareers aren’t accredited and got took of NUS months ago! I’ve asked for my money back as I’ve been misold and don’t want to do an unaccredited course and they said no!
Won’t be using Wowcher anymore..0 -
Did you really think Wocwher give out genuine deals? Any one can say this bed is £800 but you can have it for £300, but where is it £800?
Wowcher is for the gullible just like the tons of other stores where everything is always half price.2 -

Why even use Wowcher in the first place ?0 -
Wowcher do indeed visit the premises of their suppliers, presumably something went wrong checking the credentials of these course providers. As for the RRP, well, thats a different matter ...Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

I’ve never heard of a positive experience with Wowcher, all I ever come across are people with problems. Why do people get sucked into these schemes when a bit of shopping around can usually get the same “deal”?
Just buy things with cash or card. Introducing an extra party and stage of purchase is asking for trouble and isn’t worth the “great savings” being advertised.1 -
Because I’ve purchased once before and it was really good for a hotel and yes I did my research and there was no other way of getting a better deal. This was when Wowcher first started though..
I bought this course because it said NUS eligible, I didn’t expect NUS to say they removed them months ago lol0 -
I can’t begin with my issue, because it’s dragged on for so long, but I would NEVER recommend buying anything, no matter what a bargain it looks.
The number of times I had to return something that wasn’t as it was described, or had to cancel because it didn’t arrive, made any kind of bargain make me feel like a gypsy for even trying.
I have had my money stolen from these people in the form of credit vouchers which I had to use, due to the above problems, instead of a straightforward refund, and now, my latest purchase didn’t arrive when promised so had to be cancelled due to a move to Spain, and my voucher which was used has expired, so due to no fault of my own, I have lost.
DO NOT GET EXCITED ABOUT BARGAINS, THEY MAY NEVER MATERIALISE, AND YOU WILL LOSE.0 -
Wowcher has refused to provide a full refund for a spa offer which my sister bought for her friend in November. The spa was booked to go ahead at the end of February but the friend sadly died on the 12th of February. The spa has confirmed that they have sent the full cost of the spa - over £300 - back to Wowcher but they wont give more than a 50:% refund to my sister, this has been escalated to various inhuman staff at Wowcher who refuse to bend their rules so that my sister can use the refund to buy a tree for her friend at the crematorium. She has written (registered post) to the Chief Executive and emailed him. He has ignored both cimmunications; this is a disgraceful company and the more reviews I read on line reinforce this. Do not spend your hard earned money on anything this reprehensible company is selling. To tell someone that they should have realised in advance (months!) that their best friend would die before being able to use the voucher 16 days later, is beyond insensitive and inhuman. My sister could not possibly have met their 14 day no quibble refund policy and in this particular case could and absolutely should have given the refund in full. The fact that the Chief Executive is also ignoring direct correspondence is shocking!0
