Is Installing a Washing Machine Incredibly Simple?

I need a new washing machine, and was looking at options where they install the new machine, remove the old one etc, at a cost.

Is installing a new machine simply a case of turning the water supply off, connecting the hose, and plugging the machine into an electrical socket?

Am I missing something here?

Thanks.

Plus removing the transit bolts from the machine.

But yes, it really is very simple to do yourself. New machines are cold water fed so if your machine is very ancient and has the hot water feed it'll need capping off. But the pipes will have valves to turn the water off and there's always you tube videos to watch.

It's very easy if you're simply replacing an old one with a new one. It's as you describe, but also connecting the waste as well.

There are plenty of guides on the internet if you're not sure, here's the Which? guide:-

The only real difficulty you might find is that the machines are very heavy, especially if you need to get one outside ready for the scrap man. You will probably need an extra person to help move it.

I had my machine from a local firm who took the old one away for a very small fee without installation.
They also swapped the new machine for another one without quibbling when I successfully managed to order one that wouldn't fit in the gap. :o

  • That all depends on your ability( if you have to ask then I’d question you have it ) number of other factors spring to mind your health willingness of other to help you location, washing machine location, what insurance you have, if self fitted may mean increased premium, does it affect warranty, home owner /renting ,flat, house e.g.

Five floor building at the top, delicate tight staircase, outer Hebrides renting (high security deposit). Opps taking down stairs damage the wall stairs, banisters (will loose deposit )
Get to bottom but local scrap collectors gone bust no one want to use there services cheaper to do it yourself so you’ ll need to get it to scrap yard ? , Trip your backs gone oh well leave it there a bit do some washing but it leaks all over the place unfortunately call the manufacture but they say as you none professional installed it warranties invalid? and you’ve flooded all below?
Oh well whilst you waiting for your back to mend before you can get back to work to pay for all the damage, new washing machine etc you can smile to yourself about the money you saved?????

How much are they charging to install and remove the old machine? How will you dispose of the old machine and how will you move it?
Close to me small independent shops sometimes do this for free, they often repair the old machines for resale. Check locally to see how they compare.
