Gas usage with British Gas

Hi,
Looking for some advice and help with our gas usage with British Gas.

We recently moved from one 2 bedroom flat, into another 2 bedroom flat.

When we did, we carried out contract across with British Gas (replacing the existing supplier of First Utility.

After having been here one month I noticed that our gas usage on the meter reading had risen by 100 units. In our last property, it only increased by approximately 20 units.

British Gas are saying that there's not going to be a difference to our direct debits, but I find that hard to believe. Both are digital meters, and I take the reading the same way, but the new one is showing 5 x the usage we previously experienced.

I'm worried we are going to get stung by a big bill, which we'll struggle to afford following the recent move.

Any advice? or anyone been through something similar before? Would really like some tips or reassurance.

Kind regards

Are you comparing a metric meter with an imperial meter?.

Ok. I have used no gas at all in the last month so what are you using gas for?.
Water? Heating?. 100 sounds a lot for 1 summer month.

Put the extra money you think it's going to cost in an interest earning savings account with easy access.

Better you earn & keep the interest on your money than some huge corporation :)

You didn't carry your contract across. You were in a deemed contract with FU, you registered with them and then commenced a switch to BG. It's a new account.
How is the property heated and hot watered? And does this differ from your previous flat?
You cannot possibly evaluate your annual consumption from 4 weeks in the summer with the heating off.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I really wasn't thinking about annual consumption. Was just asking for some help to better understand why the usage would be 5 x the amount we were using at the previous property.

Works out to 36 Kwh a day, which seems a lot for a couple of showers and washing dishes.

Is the Gas meter sited within the flat, or is it in a Service Room along with all the others - If so check that the meter you are reading really is the one for your flat

It means I was making a mistake - getting my threads mixed up.
