Can you lose state pension?

Looking for some help with a question,i am 68 years old,was 65 in 2015 and took 12 months state pension as a lump sum then re-defered my state pension.
My wife asked me what happenes if something happens to me,i assume she means if i suddenly snuff it:rotfl:,i told her i cannot lose my state pension and she would "inherit it "i died.

Is that true? i do not intend to snuff it in the near future but would hate to see any money dissapear.

Why tell her something if you didn't know it was true? Suggest she (and you!) read the link given in the first answer.

    Are you sure about that?
  • Hello Ganga,
I suggest you do some more research re loss/inherit State Pension upon death. As you will be aware, it is a very important issue and you really need to be clear of the facts regarding your and your spouses position. Please double check your understandings.

You cant lose your own state pension.

What you can do is, inherit the second SP or s2p of your spouse (at around 50%). you MIGHT be able to up your SP to full contribution if you dont have the full SP depending on your and your spouses age (ie in t his case perhaps). Those who are younger, then no you can't get up to full contributions on a spouses record but again you can inherit a part of their second state pension perhaps.

Details matter in all cases during this transtitional period.

If you have deffered your SP, a spouse can inherit the defrred amount.

Remember the answers may well be different depending on whether your normal state pension age was before or after 6th April 2016.
