The back to backs look really good. But tours seem to be only at 10:15.

Love the idea of the canal water bus - and the restaurant just happens to be right near the canal. Then the route from near there to the bar I want to go to would take us past the museum so maybe a quick look in there if there's time.

    Thanks all!

Tours start at 10.15 but normally go on through the day. Have you tried phoning them?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I've been on a few day trips to birmingham and the main interest for me is architecture - last time i visited i had a look at the old library which prince charles though looked like a 'nuclear bunker' but this appears to have been replaced with a modern version - plenty of other interesting buildings such as new street station signal box and the iconic rotunda building - one thing i would avoid at all costs is shopping as i find shopping about as interesting as watching paint dry

Gas Street Basin is worth visiting, but won't take you long.

I was going to suggest that if you like sport you could go and visit Birmingham Citys trophy room but thinking about it I don't think they've got one.

You mention science as an interest so there is this

I've not been and the web site is very much aimed at families but I'm asure it would be of interest. Maybe somebody who has visited could comment?
  • There's the National Sea Life Centre and Birmingham Botanical Gardens as well.

In fact, if you go to New Street station, you should be able to pick up a Days Out Guide with money off vouchers - you normally have to use a train ticket, but you could get one from New Street to the local station nearest the attraction (not always possible, but worth looking at, especially if you're staying outside Birmingham itself).
  • If you like pubs, then The Anchor in Digbeth (10 mins walk from Bullring), is the nicest pub in many miles.
