Emergency gas service charges
I had a man come out to read my meters and upon reading the gas meter he said he smelt gas and called the national grid. They were here within 20 minutes and confirmed a leak and replaced the part in question and promptly left, after checking heating and hob etc.
My question is, will there be any charge for this? I’m amazed at the speed of this service, surely I’m going to have to pay for it!
Any help appreciated

Where was it leaking from ? I assume before or from the meter / regulator which is their responsibility so should be at no cost to you.0

He replaced a part that sits just behind/on top of the meter. That’s s bonus if we won’t get charged!
I must say, I’m so impressed with that service!0 -
We had a problem in our previous house where the gas pipe hadn't laid deep enough and got uncovered whilst we were have the drive re-laid.
The gas board came out within about an hour and relaid the spur from m the street main, right up to the meter using plastic piping - all done for free as it was a dangerNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

That sounds like the regulator, which is totally the responsibility of your gas supplier.
I'm sure that you already know that gas is dangerous stuff and it was fortunate that your meter reader spotted it.
It does worry me a little these days that, with the reduction in the number of visits by meter readers, especially with smart meters, that some of these leaks will go unnoticed until there is an explosion.0
