Yes, that is my preferred solution, if that doesn't work then try chocolate.Peanut butter is usually a winner.
It is important to make sure the bait is securely attached (peanut butter beaing easier) and don't put too much on as you want to make sure the mouse has to work to get it.
If the trap is outdoors then keep an eye out as you often get ants eating the bait... they will strip the peanut butter clean off in a couple of days.

If you don't have pets then get a set of sonic deterrents.
They work well in keeping rodents away from your house to begin with.
They didn't work in my house. I tried three different types in turn. Each progressively more expensive. I even had a mouse come out and stand looking at me for a full minute. It was standing barely a yard from the most expensive sonic "deterrent".
They went in the bin and were replaced with a dozen highly effective Little Nipper traditional spring mouse traps.0 -

I have experimented with different baits on my spring mouse traps over the years in my quest to lure the little beggars to the trap and dispatch them instantly with no suffering.
I have now settled on half a hazelnut smeared with Nutella. The smell of the Nutella draws them in but they have to grab the hazelnut with their teeth and give it a hard yank to try and get it get off the pin. This puts their heads in just the right position to get hit squarely by the spring.0
