Evidence is something that corroborates the claim.

It could be CCTV, it could be witness statements or it could be a triangulation of your phone signal. Anything that supports the claim that you hit them will be considered evidence.

If theyve phoned up and said 'mrbroderick1 crashed in to me' and offered nothing else then it would be a quick phone call.

If they said mrbroderick1 crashed in to me in his silver peugeot 206 with a dented side panel, reg : blah blah theyd be more willin gto work with it, but also expect the opposing side to have a different side of the story which theyll want to work out.

If they said mrbroderick1 crashed in to me, there was a police officer at the seen and here their details for a witness statement, heres the cctv of the incident, heres a video clip of them admitting their liability. Then its bit more case closed (but even then they will investigate further)

Ultimately though the first hurdle is your statement. Its not unheard of for insurance claims to have countering views, 'they shouldnt have pulled out, they should have let me in'. When this happens they (insurers) need to do more work to work out on the balance of probabilities where liability lies.

Theyre insurance companies, they do get scammers. Its one of the reasons why insurance can be such a pain. Thats ultimately what we pay for though.

Believe me when i say, your insurance company dont want to pay it if they dont have to. If youve said you wherent even there, they arent going to pay out unless they hear overwhelming evidence to say the contrary. At which point theyll prbably be wanting to revoke your insurance policy for blatantly lying to them.
  • Well that's case closed. There's no evidence whatsoever, why they even bothered to call me I do not know based on the information they told me over the telephone.

We live in a claim society, these fraudsters are a joke.
  • And no I didn't. Its all fabrication

How did they know your phone number? Or was it your insurance company who called you? If your insurance company how did the other party know your insurers?

So if you dont know this guy and never bumped him, how do you know that the damage didnt appear until a week later. Something smells fishy here.

You simply pick a car that you like from the array of vehicles at your local Tesco carpark*, write down the registration, make, colour and anything distinctive, then pop online and pay a couple of quid to get the insurer details for the car, then submit a claim direct to the insurer.

*e.g. A silver corsa reversed into me on Tescos carpark at 5:30 on Saturday. When your insurance contacts you, you did take your silver corsa to Tescos on Saturday at around 5:30......

Works the same out on the road, but you will have to be quicker writing down a suitable reg.

And of course it will all be corroborated by 'an independent witness', who definitely won't be their uncle..

Another plus for dash camera footage, but the time/date could be changed.

The date the camera shows is one of two places to check the date, the other is on the original file which on a computer will show when it was created and if it was edited. The file data is harder to change than simply setting the time on the camera (and evidence can be used to prove that e.g. big shadows on a sunny day when the camera claims to be early evening

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
