How long do M&S take to send you the gift card for a switch?

Just wondering how long this takes if anyone else here has got the incentive. I think my switch completed on 17th August and I haven't had it yet, wondering how long I should leave it before contacting them and asking about it.

  • From the M&S Website:

When will I receive my initial £125 M&S gift card?
Once your new M&S current account is open you can request to switch your banking to us from your existing provider. Providing your switch includes a minimum
of two active Direct Debits, we’ll send you your £125 M&S gift card within one
calendar month of completion of the switch as stipulated.

Within a month. It's only been a week and a half so just be patient and it'll turn up eventually :)

M&S are soooo slow....with everything. I'm still waiting for my account opening pack.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

M&S bank operate under HSBC... who are notorious for being slow to action anything with their archaic systems...

In my case, about 4 months or so.

When I eventually got round to phoning them they tried to say I didn't switch in time.

As the eejit on the phone started explaining why and the relevant dates, I just kept agreeing with everything he said until he got to the point when he had to say he was wrong and I was right.

Not a bank I would recommend for a number of reasons. Take the incentive, see out the term and then move on.

Is there a time limit under which you must initiate a switch (to) from opening the account? I had another look and couldn't see one.

Three months, as per clause 2(b) in the Ts & Cs at the end of https://bank.marksandspencer.com/pdf/CASwitchingguide.pdf
    2. You will qualify for the switching offer described in these Offer Terms if you:
    a) apply for a Qualifying Account from 27 April 2017 onwards and that account is subsequently opened by us; and
    b) within 3 months from the date you open the Qualifying Account, complete a full switch of another bank account in your name to your new Qualifying Account through the Current Account Switch Service, including a minimum of two active Direct Debits (the “Switch”). The use of the Current Account Switch Service must be initiated online, through our bank branches or by calling us on 0345 900 0900

Ah yes, thanks. I hope they're not THAT slow!!

I wonder what the "opening date" is? Day they confirmed acceptance, or once you've received and sent back all the paperwork?

It is once they have received the signed paperwork and written to you, confirming your account number etc

You'll need to get your hair cut a couple of times before that happens!!
