Old Style Daily Wednesday 29th August 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

I had trouble getting off to sleep tonight it sounded like there were a couple of foxes fighting nearby. They are becoming an increasing problem on the estate now, along with pigeons.

Today I have to go out at lunchtime so will get any shopping I need then. I also need to get a couple of birthday cards while I am in town. I have been meaning to get them for a couple of weeks now but keep forgetting.

I have been feeling so cold the past couple of days that I’ve considered turning the heating on but really don’t like the idea of putting it on in August. It has made me go through my clothes and make sure that I’ve got a good stock of opaque tights and warm clothing clean and ready.

TA I hope that you have managed to get the ward to sort out Mr TAs nutrition and that he is feeling a bit better now. Thinking of you all and hope today is a better day. x

AOD I hope you’re having a better night than yesterday and getting some sleep.

Camelot it sounds like the work on your DD and BF’s house is starting to come together now. They are lucky to have a mum who has been so willing to do so much work for them.

Csarina I hope that you managed to get your husband out for a little walk in the close.

Redruby I hope it went according to plan yesterday and that you have finally got hot water in the kitchen.

Nannywindow hopefully the appointment for Mt Fixit’s oncology injection went ok yesterday. Your DGS is going to have a lovely surprise when he opens his present on Saturday.

Snoozer it sounds like you had an enjoyable if busy break in the New Forest.

Gers another one who doesn’t usually like things like the Bodyguard but who watched the first two episodes and found it riveting.

    Have a good day everyone.

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

I have slept but patchily and gave up at 2.30. I think that I must now assume that my poor sleep pattern is not related to working in a stressful but rewarding job, now that I've retired and it must just be the way I am. Yesterday I went back to sleep for a couple of hours late morning (felt like afternoon to me). Or it could be that I'm becoming nocturnal or possibly a vampire, I will report back on the latter but so far I am not scared of garlic, crucifixes or running water.

I plan to watch the Bodyguard on BBC Iplayer Holly, I actually watch most things on catchup.

TA could I add my voice to contacting PALS, how can your DH be expected to make a good recovery with such poor nutrition.

Sending positive thoughts to all those who need them.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning All

It's been raining overnight but due to be a nice day so the washing is in and will go on the line in a bit.

I painted the ceiling in DDs living room after work, would have done more but had to come home to meet with the builder and roughcaster, looks like he could do it next week which would be good, I really need to have the back of the house sealed before the bad weather starts. Finding someone to do the garden is another issue, I can find folk who will put the slabs down but no-one wants to dig out the steps!

Work today with a big meeting for clerical staff this afternoon, looks like some of the work will be centralised. I'll call at the allotment after then go and do some more painting.

Mrs SD - the pool isn't like a sauna, quite a nice temperature for 'proper' swimming!
TA - Shocking that you have to take the fortisip to Mr TA, I think a word is in order.

Right, off to hang out the washing, have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy and overcast here, damp underfoot, so it's either raining or has been during the night.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, I'll wake him shortly as he wants to go for a run, brekkie and then catching a lift with me to go to the gym.

Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato, peas/veg. Tonight I'm not sure but think I'll pick up a tray of mixed chicken thighs and drumsticks, roast them and serve with mash, veg and gravy, there's cake/ice cream for dessert.

Went to fat club last night and somehow only managed to gain half a pound so am more than pleased with that, but now back on it and will give it my best shot this week, if I can get a loss this next week I'll be really happy. I know now that it's not the food that causes the problem but the wine consumption, so will be keeping a strict eye on it and find my level.

Work was manic yesterday so expecting the same again today, had some really difficult cases, one especially where a woman (2 years younger than me) found her partner dead at their house over the last few days, she thinks he was buying the property via a mortgage but she wasn't named on it nor were they married and his family have just descended on the house taken the keys and started emptying stuff out of the house! She's got an appointment to see a colleague this morning. Poor woman was sobbing in the office - I think this has all happened within the last 4-5 days, such an awful shock for her. They don't know why he died so have to do a post mortem etc. I'm doing a different job today so expect I'll be busy.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. Well yesterday was a one step forward and none back day so I am feeling a bit less stressed this morning.

When I went in the ward yesterday it felt different altogether. Gone were the sloth-like one speed wonder nurses who trailed about looking totally indifferent to the patients needs and, in their place, some obliging, smiling and helpful nurses! I can only assume being BH w/e they were agency nurses and locums. I took my supply of Fortisip drinks into the ward sister and asked if she was aware of Mr TA's digestive problems. She had absolutely no idea and said this information hadn't been passed on to her!! What do Admissions do with all the reams of paperwork that has to be filled in when you first get to the hospital!!! Despite being the un-Godly hour it was I can still remember discussing this when he was first transferred at midnight on Saturday!! She promised to follow this up so watch this space!! Meanwhile the Fortisip drinks are in their fridge and there will be stern words exchanged if the situation hasn't changed.

His catheter is still in place and they are monitoring his fluid intake and output. As yet no plans to put the drains in place on the kidneys (or remove the stent!) So will see what today's news is on that.

Yesterday I cancelled one of the visits booked at home. The other was to fit the bath/shower seat contraption and they promised they would get it done before I left for the hospital. Which happened! Sadly the bed lever he brought had been booked as a double bed lever and we have a super-king. He had a chunter about the OT's not doing their job properly despite all the money they were on!!

So this morning I really should do some washing and other pottering little jobs before leaving for the hospital after an early lunch. Offers of a lift from both my DB and Mr TA's eldest sister and then DS is coming after work for the early evening visiting slot and taking me home. They are long days and every evening I end up falling asleep on the sofa after my late tea/supper!

Breakfast time now - I picked up a ys avocado in the M & S food hall at the hospital yesterday so will enjoy that with a poached egg and some ham I think. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for all in need/want of them. Take care. xx ps SNOOZER no he isn't in Preston hospital thankfully. Now that would have been a long way to go every day!

    Morning all

Its a bit overcast and drizzly here atm, the patio blokes turned up yesterday to drop tools off and measure up the garden again, they were so funny they had me in stitches, they are supposed to be starting this morning but we will have to see due to the weather, I will keep them supplied with tea if they do turn up. Camelot its a shame you are not nearer these guys would dig your steps and do a fab job.

The plumber was a different story !! he was due here between 12 and 2, at 3,15 I phoned the office to ask If he was coming the girl said he was delayed but would be there by 3.45 he turned up at 4.15 proceeded to tell me his life story and then said it was not worth starting anything now and went home :rotfl:he is coming back this morning to crack on so I am hoping to have hot water by then end of today (again) !!

Yesterday while waiting for the plumber I went into dd's old room to take some of her photos off of the wall, I then got a hammer to remove some old hooks and nails which removed bits of plaster so I got filler and filled those and whilst waiting for that to go off I thought I might as well start painting, I managed to get half the room done yesterday so I will finish that today, just to freshen it up a bit. I might nip out later and get some new cushions for the bed :j

I had better have some toast and fill the kettle and some bowls for when the water goes off.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all.

I have a day with nothing in my calendar :j and the sun is forecast to come out to play. I may get in the back garden to cut back a couple of bushes, especially the hydrangea which has grown so much it's blocking my view from the kitchen window.

    Hugs all round.

    Happy Wednesday to all.
  • FLOSS Yes Me-Me has been quite supportive and it was her who kept me supplied with my supper through Mr TA's previous stay in hospital. Shepherds pie, minced beef and onion pie, etc to pop in the mw when I got home from visiting. She hasn't been to visit through this stay as yet but is texting me for updates etc.

    Morning :)

Still fairly dark here need all the lights on

TA good news on Mr TAs care on the ward hopefully he will at least get some nourishment now

Gers Enjoy your nothing day they are the best:)

AOD do do have the requisite gorgeous vampire fella too?

Yesterday was as bad as expected sadly Quote of the day (plenty to chose from) was when I told her I needed to get back for 3.30 as I had a delivery ...her response "oh you always manage to do something to spoil my day":rotfl: Maybe i should spoil it totally and not turn up. Anyway the good news is its another week before it comes round again :D My work is ramping up again from next week so I will be spoiling her week regularly by changing days

Shop coming today then I need to prep a course for next week. Assertiveness in the Workplace...maybe I should take mother she wouldn't hold back.

Got my company tax return yesterday so need to sort that out...I have a habit of putting it off till last minute but really want to sort then it doesn't appear on my "wake me up 4am" to list that whizzes round my head.

Somat from the freezer/fridge or cupboards tonight no idea what yet

Right need to assertively start work :D Have a good day all if you can
