Car Hire Abroad Insurance
Hi everyone,
I am new to this (the forum and hiring cars) and wanted to know if anyone knows of somewhere that does cheap car insurance for hiring a car abroad for 1 week - I have used skyscanner to get a price for the car hire for the week in Fuerteventura (£42 - seems ok) but not sure if they will charge a lot for insurance?
Does anyone have any experience of this? It would be a big help!
Thanks

First things first - bear in mind that, if you don't take out the (usually quite expensive when compared to the hire cost) insurance offered by the actual car hire company Skyscanner put you with then you will have to have a large sum blocked out on your Credit card when you pick up the car (usually €1,000+).
You will also probably have to put up with a hard sell on the insurance when you collect the car and them checking the car over seemingly with a microscope when you drop it off (allow plenty of time before your flight for this).
Assuming that you're ok with this then check point 5 at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-car-hire/
Bear in mind that you will have to pay your excess for any damage when you drop the car off and then claim it back from the insurance company on your return to this country.
Read the policy very carefully to check how detailed an invoice you need from the hire company for the damage etc.0 -
This is great thank you so much - I was struggling to find info on this on the MSE site.
I'll maybe look into taxi costs haha!
Thanks again for the info :-)0
