Smart Meters. Con or not

You are not shackled to your present supplier. I think you have chosen a potential supplier whose conditions are that you have a smart meter installed by them (It helps to meet their targets)
Loook for other suppliers that don ot have this condition.
Oh but smart meters do shackle you to your present supplier at least for those who want a smart meter. When we switch, the smart meter becomes dumb and we have to read it manually and provide those readings to your energy supplier and also the in-home display ceases to work. This is one aspect which was not considered and gave rise to the new version of smart meters which can be switched to a new supplier but which apparently no energy supplier has0 -
I must admit that my Secure Liberty 100 and Pipit 500 in home display still works, despite have moved suppliers at least four times since it was installed by Ovo back in 2013.
The unit cost is not right any longer but the KWhs are correct. It still provides a useful indication of consumption and I can still read the meter from the IHD to send to my current supplier.0
