Old Style Daily Tuesday 28th August 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

I managed to get another coat of paint on my wardrobe doors yesterday, so that’s another job around the house out of the way. I took advantage of the dry weather after the constant rain on Sunday, and got my bedding washed and out on the line.

Then my brother phoned to say that he was coming close to where I live to do an emergency job and would take me out to lunch. We wandered into the town and had a look around for a while and then came back for the car and went out to a pub that we used to go to with our parents respective partners many years ago. It was interesting to see it now.
    Have a good day everyone.

Dinner today will be the goulash that I had defrosted for yesterday. I need to go to the supermarket for a few fresh things, and then need to crack on with the general housework.

TA I was pleased to hear that Mr TA is doing much better, I hope that you are managing to catch up on some more sleep right now.

    Have a good day everyone.

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

I have had a restless night and have given up and come downstairs.

Today I have a few small jobs around the house, nothing remotely interesting. After that I have books to read, the Internet to browse and knitting projects to do. If I get tired, I can always have a little sleep.

Sending goid vibes to those who are unwell or worried.

    Morning All

Looks like it could be another dry day here, it was quite warm yesterday afternoon although my office was freezing all day.

I went to DDs after work and did a couple of hours filling and sanding, she had a minor meltdown earlier in the day as it all got a bit overwhelming but I think we're back on track. BFs mum said she would pay for a painter which is really nice but he came for a look and was talking about just painting over all the woodwork without sanding, I think I would rather do it myself for them to get a slightly better job done.

Hugs to all those struggling, especially the wonderful TA.

I enjoyed swimming yesterday, it was good to be back so I'm going again this morning, I need to get back into the routine of regular exercise.

Have a good day, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and again thanks for the good wishes. Sadly it's a case of one step forward and two back just now. Mr TA was really down yesterday and that is not a bit like him. Despite all that's been thrown at him over the last 5 years he has kept his spirits up and always looked to the future but yesterday he looked at rock bottom.

He doesn't like the hospital he is in now and, for what they have done since he was transferred, he would have been better staying in our local hospital. He had an u/s of his kidneys yesterday but they are waiting to speak to their regular radiologist rather than the locum that's been in over the BH. We shall see what today brings. Meanwhile he is still with the catheter.

I am going over with his younger sister this afternoon and I am taking a supply of Fortisip with me. He isn't managing to eat anything much and they don't seem to be showing much interest in giving him anything he can digest. Juice at breakfast and lunch and soup at teatime, with maybe some ice cream, is not supplying him with much nourishment. I feel he is being very let down.

I have appointments to cancel as soon as their respective phone lines are open. Short notice I know as both are for visits here today from HC people but if there has been no-one working over the long w/e to cancel them with what could I do.

Once again not a very uplifting one from me. ((HUGS)) for all else in need or want of them and take care all xx

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy start to the day again, but air feeling warmer and dry underfoot.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he wants a lift so he can go to the gym.

Lunch yesterday was fish finger sandwiches for the menfolk, with any LO's out of the fridge, dinner was HM egg and veg fried rice, I had a large packet of sausages that needed using up so they had those thrown in too, they all seemed to enjoy. Tonight will be either gammon, egg and chips or scampi, chips and peas/beans - not sure which at the moment. I'll be going to get weighed then eating afterwards, so mine will be something quite quick as it's getting late by then. I think I've put back on the 3lb I lost last week, food wise I've not been too bad, but we've had a lot of wine, we'll see. I'm back on track now, so will just draw a line under it and move on.

Back to work today for me, short week but have training again on Thursday and I'm working Saturday morning. So a busy week again.

    Keep safe and well x

TA perhaps the ward Drs need to be made aware of his nutritional needs - would your GP be able to inform them in no uncertain terms of the need for Fortisip etc? Must admit I was expecting you to tell of Mr TA being hooked up to a drip or feed system as he is an inpatient. Also, you may be able to get more regular staff now the BH is over, who understand & act upon your concerns xx

  • Sorry to hear that the situation has deteriorated TA, I'm sure that hospital catering services should be giving Mr TA better nourishment than juice and soup, I know he needs high calorie stuff, like Fortisip, but they should have provision for patients that can't eat solid food. No wonder the poor man is losing weight.
Hope today brings some definite information about treatment for him. Thinking of you both, and your family.
  • His digestive problem was relayed to them on admission for what good it has done. I shall let them know, in no uncertain terms, how cross I am about his welfare on the ward when I hand over the Fortisip. I too keep hoping he will be put on a feeding system and that's another subject I shall be addressing. I get so angry thinking about this lack of care. x

    Morning ;)

Big squeezy hugs to the TA family hope today is a better day for you.

Didn't do much yesterday but I did make some apple flapjacks which are lovely but just cant seem to get a recipe where they stay together, seem to always end up with them falling apart. Still very edible though :)

Grey day here to suit the mood T minus 3 hrs to banana shopping ...oh joy. Nan Im afraid this arm of the coven is not for changing but glad Dad is improving.

Lunch will be out today so no need for any food

have a good day all and keep smiling
