Best value European skiing for Newbies

My husband has skied several times, I've been once in Vermont and loved it. Now we have kids and money is tighter. We've just returned from a summer activity holiday in the French Alps and now we are itching to try skiing with the kids.

Any recommendations for best value European skiing holidays for one skier, one beginner and two young teens who've never skied?

Some of the Italian ski resorts accessible from Turin can be more family friendly and good if your teens enjoy pizza and pasta.

Easter is late next year and some schools are doing different holidays, if your teens finish school at the end of March, look at that first week in April.

There are more ski flights for the upcoming season, so have a good browse of your preferred airports website for these.
    Snowheads website can be good.

    Zakopane can be good.

value wise, a lot of people head to Bulgaria or Andorra. I ski with a large group, and we always go for the high snowsure resorts, and catered chalets, so not the cheapest. We also cap our transfer at 2 hours if possible.

To have a set idea of costs you could look at neilson, we're going with them this year, we get full board with wine, free ski guiding and coaching and got 1/2 price lift passes too.

I just found this article, it might help:

Snowheads forum is great for help and advice too.

Have a look at Romania [Transylvania]...

Fly to Bucharest, and then regular shuttle buses from the Airport to Brasov take about 2.5 hours. To Sinaia, about an hour or so.

Beautiful part of the world too, and great vfm.

We first skied about 5 years ago in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

It's perfect for beginners there as the pistes aren't too long. It also has the advantage of very cheap food and drink.

Since then we've been to Madonna di Campiglio in the Italian Dolomites - there's plenty of different pistes here for all skill levels but some of the runs can be a bit long for newbies.

Going to Kranjska Gora for 3 weeks in April next year.

I'd echo PP about Romania being a great destination.

Not sure about Slovenia though. Lovely country but the days of it being cheap are long gone.

We'll be on AI for the duration, so don't anticipate spending too much.
  • We went Borovets, Bulgaria lasts year as a family.

50km of piste, snow ok, some snow makers, mix of green/blue/reds, bit narrow in parts when slopes join, town feels dated, cheap hotels 5min mini bus from town.

Went out of school holidays, family of 4 (7+8yr old), flied with easyjet, half board, lessons, ski hire, slope passes + spending spending money = £2500 ish

as with all ski holidays looking at twice the price when schools closed.

Trying to work out if we can go France this year but even out of school holidays cost so much more.

Have a look at Olympic Ski, La Foret in Villandary. not sure of kids holidays, but was quite good value for us this year as an all adult group. They have great rooms with 2 beds for kids on mezzanine level.
