Brown Window Frames?

A craze in my street is to switch from White to Brown Windows which is fast leaving me behind with white.
I would have to change the guttering, fascias, drain pipes, conservatory if i made the switch, i actually prefer anthracite black type colour but not sure they would match the brick colour.
I would imagine anything other than white are more expensive.
Anyone noticing this fad of new colours?
Enjoy everyday like it's your last!

  • The darker colours don't show dirt like the white but they are more expensive, i understand they all start white and are dipped because my back brown window started to peel off revealing white upvc underneath which led to us changing back in the end.

Presuming that you mean brown oak effect, not so on mine. I can see where screws etc. have cut through the plastic and it's brown all the way through.

We still have white guttering, fascia etc. and it looks good.

Personally, I think if everything was brown it would look odd. Depends on the building and taste I suppose.

If you wait a while you'll be ahead of the game when everyone starts switching from brown back to white. ;)

You're not seriously considering changing your windows, guttering, fascias, drain pipes & conservatory because everyone else has a different colour?

I was told by a DG company we had a quote from that this is called foiling. It is possible to have coloured frames where the upvc is the same colour as top coat. We have light oak in our sunroom, there is a wood grained patterned foil on top of a light brown plastic. It would be much less noticeable if the foil layer was scratched.

    I dislike brown, too.

In my last place, they were brown. Not much I could do about outside, but I repainted the inside with Zinsser primer and satin white top coats.

Made the whole place MUCH brighter.

I saw an entire street with brown windows, plus leaded lights, on my property search (in sandilands Mablethorpe) all ok looking bungalows and a nice looking area. Spoilt be what is possibly a developers idea of making things look good.

Put me off the entire area.

Reminds me of a time when people rushed to install coloured bathroom suites.:D

I think the window manufacturers are on a winner here by pushing different coloured frames....Anthracite is so last year!

TBH, I think they look a bit naff, unless they're in keeping with a house of unique character.
