Strange thing happened today, I received a cheque from BG for £1.56 to refund my final account.
Something tells me BG haven't a clue what's going on with their customers accounts, they are still a bunch of jokers!!!0 -

Sounds like a problem has been corrected now then. May be worth just waiting to see what that final bill says. As long as that final bill quotes this credit refund, you are done with them. If there is a further debt, then just another mistake.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
A quick update...
Well, good news - I finally left British Gas. My last day was November 13th. :j
As advised, I gave my final meter readings to both my new supplier and British Gas. I made sure the person I spoke to at British Gas read the figures back to me.
On November 22nd, I received an email from British Gas, worded as if I'm still a customer: "We really value & appreciate the custom you’ve given British Gas & would like to thank you for continuing to choose us as your energy supplier. As you’ve shown your commitment to us, we’d now like to outline our commitment to you..." and then waffles on for a few pages about "exciting times ahead" and how everything's getting better all the time. Hmm...
Yesterday, November 26th, I received my final gas bill from British Gas.
It's wrong.
It doesn't use the figures I provided (and which the BG employee read back to me).
It also says "we read your meter" - which they didn't, I provided the readings.
However, the bizarre thing is... it's wrong in my favour! It's actually lower than it should be! What should I do? Correct them, or just pay up & forget about it?
Lord knows what will happen when my final Electricity bill arrives! (any day now)

Well BG are Great aren't they, company of the year!!!
This has happened to us, we've put the £ 50 we thing we owe them but haven't been billed for in our savings account!!!0 -
Hi Midflight,
Thats just another retention letter. Just waffle.
It matters more what your new Supplier bills you from. As long as both Suppliers bill you up & from the same reading, you have no overlap hence do not pay twice. Now if the reading is in yout favour then you will be better off leaving it if your new Supplier is cheaper per unit. If your old Supplier is chaaper (surely unlikely???) then insist it's changed to get your unit cost cheaper.
Suppliers tend not to bother anyway if it's less than 1000 units as it's not worth there time for the small profit involved as it goes through a lengthy correction process.
Just makesure there is no overlap, if there is - you get charged twice for the error so insist it's corrected then.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
We'll look to change a read if it is over a certain limit, but as Terry says, check if it's going to benefit you.
For electricity we'll change if the read is 250 or more out, gas if it is 108m3 or 38 00ft3.
It's just that under this it makes so little differnce if both supplier have used the same read.0 -
Yeah, all companies have their own limits. I know some operate at 500 or 1000 on change of tenancy disputed readings & CoS readings. It's an internal policy though so up to the Suppliers. I guess the bigger companies may have them set higher due to the volume they may deal with.
Do whats best for you. I know Suppliers refuse if it's not worth their time but they cannot refuse if it makes you worse off so be firm.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
It gets better...
Got another letter (well, leaflet) from British Gas yesterday (28th November 2007) offering me free gas for a year if I buy a new boiler from them.
In big letters near the top it says "Offer must end 26th November 2007"
Apart from the obvious, 3 things spring to mind:
(1) I had a brand new boiler fitted 11 months ago, by a local plumber for £1300
(2) Their new boiler would cost £3000+
(3) The "free gas for a year" is actually capped at £800, and I wouldn't use anything like that amount (not even half)
Something tells me I won't be taking up this great offer...SKIPS STONES FOR FUDGE0
